News Round-Up: J5 Goes Live, Macca's "Run" Versions and Papa Roach Compiled

June 16, 2010 By Mike Duquette 1 Comment

  • Hip-o Select has begun quite the marketing push for their upcoming release of The Jackson 5's Live at The Forum. They have set up an entire site devoted to it, featuring pictures, anecdotes and (best of all) streaming excerpts from the album ("Who's Lovin' You" is the first previewed track). The folks at the label have also made the mind-blowing decision to link to us on the site, so if you're a J5 fan who clicked through to The Second Disc, a special welcome to you!
  • A very interesting tidbit from a site called MaccaBlog (guess what they cover): they're citing a report from Universal Music France that the upcoming reissue of Band on the Run - the first in a series of reissues by McCartney on his new home at Concord - will get a myriad of packages on its purported release date of September 28. There will be a single-disc remaster in a digipak, a deluxe edition comprising two CDs and a DVD, another "super-deluxe edition" spread over three CDs and a DVD (with some sort of book-type packaging) and a new double-vinyl pressing.
  • Finally, another upcoming compilation that slipped through the cracks recently: Papa Roach will finish their contract with Interscope/Geffen (jumping now to Eleven Seven, the indie home of Motley Crue, Buckcherry and others) with a compilation. ...To Be Loved: The Best of Papa Roach is a 14-track affair including a few acoustic versions and a previously unreleased cut, "Just Go (Never Look Back)." The street date is June 29. Take a look at the specs after the jump.

Mike Duquette

Mike Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he was a teenager. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, holding positions at Legacy Recordings and Rhino Records and contributing to Allmusic, Discogs, City Pages, Ultimate Classic Rock and Mondo Records, for whom he penned liner notes for his favorite piece of music: John Williams' Oscar-winning score to 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with his wife, a cat named Ravioli, twin daughters and a large yet tasteful collection of music.

Any word on what these expanded versions of Band on the Run will contain? The original album's a gem, but unless the sound is mind-blowingly improved on the new CD I can't imagine buying it again.

I would be interested demos, studio jams, and (especially) a live Wings show from the same time period. Something before the well-documented Wings Over America tour.
