More Hendrix to Experience

are-you-experiencedMy last post touched on the impending Jimi Hendrix Experience reissue campaign from Legacy Recordings, who recently gained distribution rights of the catalog. (The catalog proper is owned by the guitarist’s family company, Experience Hendrix, who had previously licensed the material to MCA/Universal in 1997.)

Now, thanks to Billboard, some more information has sprung up regarding the first wave of material. In addition to the previously mentioned CD/DVD reissues of Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland, a twelve-track compilation of vault material called Valleys of Neptune is set for release, culled mostly from material from The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s last sessions in 1969. Also of note: apparently a CD/DVD release of First Rays of the New Rising Sun, the first vault set released by Experience Hendrix and MCA in 1997, is slated for March 9 as well.

Other projects in the works include a reissue of the JHE compilation Smash Hits (no word on whether it’ll use the UK or US tracklisting – either of which are odd because neither lineup uses material from Axis: Bold as Love), a DVD/Blu-Ray of the JHE’s iconic performance at Woodstock and yet another multi-disc box set, after 2000’s The Jimi Hendrix Experience on MCA.

As always, keep it here for as much reissue and remaster news as you can stand!
