This Friday, April 15, The Dixie Chicks will be flying high with Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings’ vinyl reissues of their 1998 breakthrough Wide Open Spaces and next three albums Fly (1999), Home (2002) and Taking The Long Way (2006).  All four albums have been newly remastered and pressed on 150-gram 12-inch vinyl.

These four remastered LPs arrive one day before the band launches its fifth world tour.  DCX MMXVI World Tour kicks off in Antwerp, Belgium and concludes October 10, 2016 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.  DCX MMXVI marks the first time in a decade that Dixie Chicks have toured the United States as headliners; their most recent U.S. tour found them joining the Eagles in 2010, while the 2013-2014 Long Time Gone Tour was limited to Canada and Europe.

The Dixie Chicks began their recording career as bluegrass-classic country revivalists in 1990 with the album Thank Heavens for Dale Evans, featuring the quartet of Robin Lynn Macy, Laura Lynch, Martie Erwin (later Maguire) and Emily Erwin (later Robison).  This line-up only survived for two albums, however.  The band’s third LP, 1993’s Shouldn’t ‘a Told You That, boasted a slimmed-down line-up of Martie, Laura and Emily.  Singer-bassist Lynch departed after its release, and five years later the indie country rockers re-emerged on Sony’s Monument Records label (onetime home to Dolly Parton and Kris Kristofferson) with a new lead singer, Natalie Maines, and a new album, Wide Open Spaces.

Wide Open Spaces picked up two Grammy Awards and achieved Diamond certification from the RIAA; collectively, the four albums in Legacy’s new campaign have sold more than 30 million copies and taken home 13 Grammys. Of the four titles, only Home has been previously available on vinyl.  Each of these albums has topped Billboard‘s Country Albums chart.  These albums also proved The Dixie Chicks’ crossover appeal.  Wide Open Spaces peaked at an impressive No. 4 on the Billboard 200, and each of the three subsequent albums went all the way to No. 1.  Additionally, with four Best Country Album Grammys –1999: Wide Open Spaces; 2000: Fly; 2003: Home; 2007: Taking the Long Way – under their belt, The Dixie Chicks remain the only group or artist to have won more than once in that category, and the only group or artist to have won for every single one of their releases.
