The Ballad of the Boy in the Red Box: Elton John Vinyl Set Coming from Burberry

BUY FROM BURBERRY.COM

Elton John is looking back on part of his catalogue on vinyl with a very unusual partner–British luxury fashion house Burberry.

Elton’s longtime passion for and collaboration with Burberry (he appeared in an ad campaign for the brand in 2015) will be commemorated by a special box of six of his albums on 180-gram vinyl, at a limited run of only 800 copies. Each LP has been remastered from the original tapes by Bob Ludwig and lacquers have been cut at Abbey Road Studios.

The gold glitter-flecked, individually numbered boxes will include Elton John (1970), the live 17-11-70 (1971), Madman Across the Water (1971), Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975), Too Low for Zero (1983) and, making its debut on the format, Songs from the West Coast (2001).

“I’m really thrilled to see these albums reintroduced in such stylish form,” Elton said in a statement. “Choosing these six wasn’t easy; however I think they are a very good representation of my catalogue between 1970 and 2001. It’s been a pleasure as always to work with Burberry and in particular Christopher Bailey – a dear friend. Producing these albums was a real labour of love for everyone involved.”

The set will be available for purchase at Burberry stores worldwide and online starting November 1.

  1. Interesting selection of albums and not an easy task to represent Elton’s whole career in only 6 albums. I think I would have included either “Sleeping With The Past” (1989) or “The One” (1993) instead of “11-17-70.” The 18-year gap between “Too Low For Zero” and “Songs From The West Coast” creates a bit of a void.

  2. Remastered by Bob Ludwig from the master tapes – nice! I don’t think he recorded “Too Low” on tape (was that the first DDD from EJ?), and definitely not the excellent “Songs From the West Coast” – but two amazing choices post 1975.

But only 800 copies? Gotta snap this up FAST.

  3. I do not see any mention of a retail price for this set. Cost will be my deciding factor in whether or not I try to buy one.
