Lightning Crashes: Live Reissue "Throwing Copper" With Bonus Tracks, Live Woodstock Set

July 23, 2019 By Sam Stone 1 Comment

PRE-ORDER FROM ARTIST STORE

In April 1994, the alternative rock heroes Live released Throwing Copper.  The band already had a reputation as one of the most powerful and dynamic of the alternative rock scene off the heels of their 1991 debut, and when Throwing Copper topped the Billboard 200 chart in 1995, their renown only grew.  The Jerry Harrison-produced album spawned two No. 1 singles on the Modern Rock Charts, "Lightning Crashes" and "Selling the Drama," and eventually, the record would be certified 8x Platinum by the RIAA and be deemed a favorite of the era.

Twenty-five years on, Radioactive/MCA/UMe have prepared a deluxe, 2LP/2CD box set version of the landmark recording.  Its first disc features an expanded version of the original album (complete with the hidden song "Horse"). It's supplemented with three hard-to-find tracks.  There's "Hold Me Up," a previously unreleased recording from Zack and Miri Make a Porno, "We Deal in Dreams," from the 2004 compilation Awake: The Best of Live, and the unreleased "Susquehanna."  The expanded album program is replicated on vinyl in the box set.  If that weren't enough, CD Two includes Live's set at Woodstock '94, recorded on August 12th of that year.

AVAILABLE TO STREAM AND DOWNLOAD

While the box set is exclusive to the UDiscoverMusic Store and Live's online shop, other retail outlets are now stocking a bare bones, 1-CD 25th anniversary set with the expanded album program, alongside a standalone 2-LP set that follows the same track listing.  Meanwhile, Live's Woodstock '94 performance is currently available to stream and download.

You can find all the information about the Throwing Copper: 25th Anniversary Edition and place your order with the links below!

Sam Stone

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day. Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.

Of course the only way to get the live at Woodstock is to download it or buy the deluxe box set. But on the rereleased version of their first album the cd version included a live show
