Fans of The Dave Clark Five have good reason to feel glad all over...again! The British Invasion hitmakers had a string of successful singles before their breakup in 1970, including "Glad All Over," "Because," and "Catch Us If You Can." DC5 leader Clark (who holds the rights to their discography) hasn't been too keen on looking back at his past, though, much to superfans' dismay. However, tides began to turn last summer when remastered editions of six DC5 albums and the 2008 compilation The Hits arrived on digital services.
Now, that career-spanning collection is set for re-release on January 31 (January 24 on the other side of the pond) under the new name All The Hits. The comprehensive compilation contains all their smashes, alongside other key tracks, as well as the rarity "Universal Love."
There will be a couple of versions of All The Hits arriving in shops by the month's end. The U.K. edition includes 28 tracks available in 1-CD or 2-LP formats. Meanwhile, the U.S. variant only features 16 songs spread across a single CD or LP. Thankfully, readers in the States can purchase an imported copy of the more extensive edition. Mike Elder says
Does anyone know if these will be Stereo or mono tracks?
Mark H. says
All the early tracks including their big hits are mono. The last couple of tracks are stereo.
Mike Elder says
That's amazing at this stage in the game. I have stereo versions of the majority of the DC5 hits, and they are great quality and superb stereo. So they obviously have stereo available. Not sure why Dave is so opposed to releasing all of their material in stereo.
Joe Mac Pherson says
Really, after all these decades, some things still haven't changed. I do remember the 1960's, and U.S. vinyl albums by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones having fewer tracks than their original British releases. Here we are in the year 2020, and our version of All The Hits has 16 tracks? And the British version has 28? That's 12 extra songs we're not going to hear! On CD, with so much room available for the rest!
I truly hope Mr. Clark will issue a deluxe box set, covering the entire history of The Dave Clark Five. Or, 2 deluxe sets, assuring that all of the albums, non-album b-sides of singles, hopefully rarities we never knew existed, can be given the proper treatment. For example, the first box set would cover everything from 1963 - 1966, and the second box set would cover the years 1967 - 1970.
I was 9 years old, watching The Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan Show that February night, in 1964. I was absolutely aware of The Dave Clark Five, The Searchers, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Sandie Shaw, Marianne Faithfull, The Animals, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and essentially, the entire 1964 vanguard of The British Invasion. It helped tremendously that my 2 older sisters were 15 and 16, in 1964, and I heard every 45 RPM record they bought. Plus, all the records their girl friends would bring over to play, on our deluxe stereo system!
I'm 65 now. Truly, one of the original fans of The Dave Clark Five. How much longer must I wait for Mr. Clark to decide that the band bearing his name deserves better treatment, and respect?
Bob says
It appears this is just a newly remastered version of the 2008 Hits that was released. If one didn't own the 2008 version I'd say go for this. This CD does have an extra song "Everybody Get Together".
How much better can a newly remastered (2nd time around) CD sound?
Bob says
Correction the 2008 Hits CD also contains "Everybody Get Together". Looks like this new release is a carbon copy of The Hits 2008. This new CD is simply remastered again.
Shaun says
Probably not much... With current remastering (Read: BRICKWALLING) standards, quite possibly worse.
I am not familiar with the 2008 release, so I don’t know how that sounds. Just that “Newly remastered” is not necessarily a selling point. Often, though not always, older CD issues are often better to my ears.
The other question here is why the UK gets almost twice as many songs as the US release. Ridiculous.
RichD says
Dave Clark REALLY needs to issue the ENTIRE DC5 catalog on CD -- its become beyond ridiculous by this time....
In the meantime the label OLDAYS out of Japan has done a simply amazing and beautiful job of releasing the DC5 catalog on CD's -- in mini-LP high quality cardboard sleeves and CD labels that are reminiscent of the old yellow EPIC Records labels. These are factory pressed silver CD's and they are fantastic !!! They were relatively cheap too ! Not sure if they are still in print though...

Bob says
Rock n Beat I believe from Germany and Hungary released DC albums on CD. Two titles per disc. Have you heard of them and if so do the Oldays out of Japan sound better than them? Thanks.
RichD says
In my opinion the Oldays CD's sound MUCH better and definitely look MUCH better !!!
Bill says
Does not the earlier release "The History of The Dave Clark FIve" have two discs of twenty five songs each?
ed says
yes, it does
Bill says
So why would anyone who has that CD release want to purchase it? I have it, and am waiting for the long awaited album re-issues.
David B says
"All the hits" .. er what happened to, amongst others, "Red balloon" which was a UK top ten hit .. one for the trade descriptions act me thinks ..
Tony Traguardo says
I'm a huge fan of the band, but in all honesty I can't help but feel that these collections, and any future DC5 CDs and packages, should be boycotted (or traded freely!).
Dave Clark was a stubborn jerk (and I really have a MUCH stringer word in mind) and refused to release the DC5 catalog when Mike Smith was alive, even after he was paralyzed following a horrifying accident and desperately in need of money to pay his medical bills.
NOW he decides to release everything? Horrible.

Eliot Wien says
Hi. my name is Eliot Wien, and on Friday I purchased All the Hits by Dave Clark Five. I purchased 2 CD's and 1 copy of the Vinyl. All USA pressings.
I listened to the 16 track CD in my car, but realised that the CD only had 15 tracks. It was missing Universal Love.
I can return my purchase to the store, but it's not really their fault. This is the fault of the pressing plant.
What does one do in this situation?
Greg Malis says
so I'm not crazy! I was getting ready to take this back to the record store - (however they only do straight exchanges which would accomplish nothing) - I guess I'll just accept it for now - sadly I don't thing I ever heard "Universal Love" ~
Robert Thorley says
I gruw up listening to dc5 in the sixties courting my wife of now54yrs happy days lots of memories
N.Z.H. says
It is all about money and whatever attention can be gotten as Dave Clark is closer-to-the-grave than he is to-the-hearse.
Mae West once quipped: "Keep A Diary And Someday It Will Keep You"! Hence, the "New" DC5 Collections...no more significant than Universal issuing another "Supremes Collection."
We "Baby Boomers" are growing old and so, the audiences grow smaller.
