Happy Now: Britpop Band Embrace's Early Albums Reissued

March 20, 2020 By Sam Stone Leave a Comment

BUY "DRAWN FROM MEMORY" FROM AMAZON.COM

Good news for all you good, good people:  Brit-pop group Embrace's Drawn From Memory and If You've Never Been  will soon be reissued on vinyl for the first time since their original release through Craft Recordings.

Like Oasis and The Verve before them, Embrace became a pop sensation in the late-'90s, with anthemic songs, catchy riffs, and sweeping rockers.  They honed their talents on-stage and in the studio with their first singles in 1997, and their debut album from 1998, The Good Will Out.  That first album was recently reissued on vinyl through UMC in the U.K., and now Craft will pick up the series with the top ten U.K. album Drawn From Memory and its follow-up, If You've Never Been.  Both titles are available today. And for those of you who like your music in bits and bytes, all three albums have landed on streaming and digital download services for the first time ever, as well.

Drawn From Memory hit number eight in the U.K. Chart in 2000 and garnered widespread acclaim from the music press.  With four Top 40 singles ("Hooligan," "You're Not Alone," "Save Me" and "I Wouldn't Wanna Happen to You"), the album spent 20 weeks in the top 100 as the group toured the country with Coldplay opening.

The next year, Embrace released If You've Never Been. It was to be their third U.K. top 10 album, with a pair of top 40 singles:  "Wonder" and "Make It Last." It marked a shift away from their straight-ahead rock sound, displaying the band's versatility with tender and thoughtful approach.

Since then, Embrace have earned three more U.K. No. 1 albums and six top 10 singles, and sold over 2.5 million records.  Now, fans can revisit their earliest work with these deluxe vinyl reissues.  You can purchase each album with the links below, or get both in a special bundle from the Craft Recordings Online Shop.

Sam Stone

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day. Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.
