Sorry, Mr. Rabbit - it seems that Trix aren't just for kids! On December 11, Rhino will release Bag of Trix: Music from the Roxette Vaults, a deep dive into the archives of the Swedish pop duo. This four-volume set to be released on 4 LPs, 3 CDs, and digital platforms features a wealth of rare material from Per Gessle and the late Marie Fredriksson. Even better, fans don't have to wait until December to listen; the four volumes will be individually rolled out to digital services between this Friday, October 30, and the release date of the physical editions.

Gessle and Fredriksson were both well-established in Sweden by the time they teamed up as Roxette; the former had led the band Gyllene Tider to three chart-topping albums while the latter was recording as a solo artist. Gessle's song "Neverending Love" was the catalyst for Roxette; he wrote it for Pernilla Wahlgren but she turned it down. Wahlgren passed it onto her brother Niclas, but Gessle's record label EMI urged him to cut his own version with Fredriksson. Their single, originally intended for release outside of Sweden so as not to interfere with her own solo career, shot to No. 3 on the Swedish singles chart. A duo was born.

Roxette went on to score international fame, recording ten albums between 1986 and 2016. After five top ten singles in their home country, they conquered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with 1989's "The Look." Per's irresistible composition not only topped the chart in the U.S. but in four other countries (and went top ten in another five). "The Look" ignited a run of hit singles in the States including "Dressed for Success" (No. 14), "Dangerous" (No. 2), and "Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave)" (No. 2) - as well as three more No. 1s between 1989 and 1991: "Listen to Your Heart," "It Must Have Been Love," and "Joyride." While the U.S. hits dried up after 1994's "Sleeping in My Car," Roxette continued to chart major hits around the world, reaching the top ten in Sweden numerous times in the 21st century. Despite their hiatus between 2002 and 2009 (during which time Fredriksson battled health problems, both members released solo albums, and Per reunited with Gyllene Tider), Roxette never formally broke up. They were still performing and releasing music in 2016 when Marie was forced off the road on advice of her doctors. She died on December 9, 2019 at the age of 61 after a valiant, two-decade battle with cancer.

Today, Roxette is recognized as the second most commercially successful Swedish group of all time only after ABBA. Bag of Trix: Music from the Roxette Vaults celebrates Marie's legacy with 47 tracks across the four volumes, 28 of which are previously unreleased. The set includes demos, live tracks, alternates, and more, among them versions of "The Look," "Listen to Your Heart," "Dangerous," and "Joyride," including the rare U.S. single mix of the latter.

Bag of Trix: Music from the Roxette Vaults arrives from Rhino beginning this Friday with the digital release of Volume One.  Look for further "drops" on November 13, November 27, and finally, December 11, when the 4-LP and 3-CD versions arrive.  The CD set features a unique running order but the same material.
