In the pantheon of British blues music, few have had as much influence as John Mayall. As the leader of The Bluesbreakers in the '60s and '70s (and through to today), he's sought out and nurtured talented musicians who'd go on to become as legendary as Mayall himself. Indeed, the roster of future legends that passed through the ranks of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers is immense. John McVie, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Paul Butterfield, Aynsley Dunbar, Mick Taylor, Keef Hartley, and Jack Bruce all made sizable contributions to the band's direction, with Mayall building an environment for everyone to thrive.
On January 29, 2021, that classic period will anthologized with The First Generation: 1965-1974, a mammoth, limited-edition box set from Snapper Music. The 35-CD collection boasts newly remastered editions of 24 albums - many supplemented with bonus tracks - plus a trio of CD singles and plenty of unreleased material. Among that rare audio are 7 concert recordings recorded in Europe from 1967 to 1970 making their CD debut, as well as 28 unreleased tracks from the BBC archives. The box set will also include a hardbound book with rare images and memorabilia, a book of fan club correspondence, two replica posters, a replica press pack for John Mayall Plays John Mayall, and a signed photograph.
The First Generation: 1965-1974 is a fitting celebration of the first chapter of John Mayall's career and an essential purchase for any big fan. But it's limited to only 5,000 copies, so you'll want to act fast to add this immersive celebration of the Godfather of British Blues to your music library! You can find order links and the complete track listing below, as well as an unboxing video to whet your appetite.

Brian Stanley says
Looks like a mega-fan’s dream, but at $440, I’ll have to pass.
Mark H. says
Agreed. Five or so years ago I spent some time getting hold of the deluxe or expanded editions of Mayall's Decca years. I would love this but can't justify the price.
I can't see 5,000 copies selling out anytime soon, but maybe I don't understand the British love for blues...
Brian Stanley says
I got the expanded “Bluesbreakers with Clapton” and the expanded (and very underrated) “A Hard Road” as well. Those did make me interested in checking out more Mayall, but I think there are one or two bonus tracks on those editions that aren’t here.
Robert Lett says
There’s a crazy good deal on this at DeepDiscount.Com today right around 150. I got it for this reason.
zally says
this should of been called 65 to 68 and 69 to 74. that way the bluesbreakers material would be separate from johns solo period.some of his later works such as memories and 10 years gone are just so fall below standard.his primo period was from 65 o 68. the bbc should be a seperate 2 cd set,
