Andy Williams, When You Fall in Love: Lost Columbia Masters 1977-1982 (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
When You Fall in Love: Lost Columbia Masters 1977-1982 rounds up eighteen rarities from the late, great Andy Williams. Over a dozen never-before-heard recordings premiere here which teamed Andy with producers, songwriters, and arrangers including Steve Dorff, Paul Vance, Kerry Chater, Bob Esty, Bill Justis, Gene Page, Dick Glasser, Robby Adcock, and Steve Popovich including original songs and covers of ABBA ("The Way Old Friends Do"), The Everly Brothers ("So Sad"), and Brenda Lee ("Losing You"). A handful of rare singles premiere on CD here, too, including renditions of the Tom Snow-penned "You," the Francis Lai-composed soundtrack theme "The Music's Too Sweet Not to Dance" from Love Story sequel Oliver's Story, and the Bob Esty-helmed disco version of original Love Story classic "Where Do I Begin." For the Love of Benji theme "Sunshine Smiles" also premieres here in a previously unreleased version arranged and produced by frequent Williams collaborator Nick DeCaro. All tracks on When You Fall in Love: Lost Columbia Masters are mixed and remastered from the original tapes by Ted Carfrae, and the 20-page booklet designed by John Sellards features new annotation by TSD's Joe Marchese. Paul McCartney and Wings, Band on the Run: 50th Anniversary Edition (MPL/UMe)
2CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Paul McCartney U.S. Shop
2LP: Paul McCartney U.S. Shop
LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Paul McCartney U.S. Shop
Paul McCartney is celebrating 1973's beloved Band on the Run for its 50th anniversary in a new reissue featuring the original album one on disc alongside a set of vintage alternate mixes of the project on the second disc. These "underdubbed" versions, lacking the expansive orchestration of the final album, were sourced from a rough mix prepared by original engineer Geoff Emerick on October 14, 1973. The 2CD set has a foldout, double-sided Linda McCartney Polaroid poster while the slipcased 2LP version has two posters. In addition, a half-speed-mastered 1LP edition (like the 2CD and 2LP editions, mirroring the U.S. track listing with "Helen Wheels" included) will arrive as mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road. Finally, a Dolby Atmos mix by Giles Martin and Steve Orchard will hit digital services. (The basic 2-disc configuration will, of course, also be released digitally.) Read more here.
Various Artists, Black Jazz: The Complete Singles (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
This collection gathers all 10 of the singles issued by the groundbreaking Black Jazz label over the course of its existence. The artists featured are Gene Russell, Walter Bishop Jr., Doug Carn, Rudolph Johnson, Jean Carn, Calvin Keys, Chester Thompson, Kellee Paterson, and Cleveland Eaton. It makes a fine sampler for the label and includes some unique single edits. Real Gone notes: "On those singles that simply faded out the album track on one side and faded it up on the next, we've elected to present the album tracks without interruption to ensure a more seamless listening experience." First released on a 2-LP vinyl set for last year's Black Friday Record Store Day event, this collection is now making its debut on CD. It has been remastered by Mike Milchner at SonicVision and features liner notes by Pat Thomas. Click here for more about Black Jazz and the rest of Real Gone's slate available today including a lost disco classic, music from Medeski, Martin, and Wood, and Orgy, and the soundtrack to the book Material Wealth: Mining the Personal Archive of Allen Ginsberg which was released in November from powerHouse Books.
Mariah Carey, Music Box: 30th Anniversary Edition (Columbia/Legacy)

The redesigned cover features a full image of Mariah as seen cropped and up close on the original sleeve. Get more details here.

The Sound of Music: Super Deluxe Edition (Craft Recordings)
4CD/Blu-ray: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
2CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
3LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Craft Store (picnic meadow green)
This remarkable new 4CD/1BD box set - finally arriving today in a corrected edition after the faulty first pressing had two identical discs - invites listeners to hear The Sound of Music anew. The first two discs represent the complete musical score as heard in the film, from the orchestral prelude and Julie Andrews' iconic "The Sound of Music" - yes, that word is overused, but it certainly qualifies here! - all the way to the climactic reprise of "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and the "End Cast" titles. The program closes with vintage audio interviews with Rodgers, Wise and Charmain Carr, who played the Von Trapp's eldest daughter Liesl. The third disc presents a fresh remaster of the original 1965 soundtrack LP along with a few archival bonus tracks - most of them previously released, other than a demo of "I Have Confidence" sung by none other than Marni Nixon, who played one of the nuns and also famously served as the singing voice behind Natalie Wood in the Wise-directed 1961 adaptation of West Side Story and Audrey Hepburn in 1964's My Fair Lady (a role Andrews originated but was passed over, allowing her to secure her Oscar-winning turn in Mary Poppins.) The fourth disc, meanwhile, is chockablock with extras: alternate takes of key songs and instrumentals of the major musical numbers, nearly all previously unreleased. (The set boasts a total of 42 unreleased tracks, including some pieces of score that did not make previous reissues.) Simply put, this box is the last word on the beloved soundtrack to The Sound of Music. The Blu-ray offers stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes. "Highlights" editions are available on CD and LP.
