Love Shine Down: Real Gone Reissues Dusty Springfield's "Faithful"

Dusty Springfield Faithful

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

Almost a decade ago, in 2015, Real Gone Music premiered Dusty Springfield's Faithful, a complete, "lost" album recorded in New York with producer-songwriter Jeff Barry.  The 2015 CD release was followed in 2016 by its vinyl debut.  On July 12, the label is returning Faithful to print on a new, metallic gold and purple gatefold vinyl edition.

Faithful was produced by the legendary Jeff Barry ("Chapel of Love," "Leader of the Pack," "Sugar, Sugar") for Springfield in 1971.  From his home base at New York's Century Sound, Barry produced thirteen songs for Dusty - twelve intended for album release and one for a non-LP single.  Four songs were initially released on two 45s ("Haunted" b/w "Nothing Is Forever," and "I Believe in You" b/w "Someone Who Cares"), but when Dusty departed Atlantic Records, the remaining tracks were left on the shelf, and thought lost until the CD era.  The mono version of "Faithful" finally emerged on Rhino's 1992 CD reissue of the Gamble and Huff-produced LP A Brand New Me, and the other tracks didn't surface until they were appended to Dusty in Memphis in 1999.

Faithful presents the 12-song album as originally envisioned (including Barry and Bobby Bloom's cult favorite "Haunted," Barry's "I Believe in You," Carole King's "You've Got a Friend," and David Gates' "Make It with You").  (The CD edition included "Nothing Is Forever" as a bonus.)  All tracks are in stereo as mastered by Mike Milchner at SonicVision, while the liner notes, penned by The Second Disc's Joe Marchese, draw on his extensive 2015 interview with Jeff Barry.  They're included in the new gatefold which also boasts photos of Dusty and associated memorabilia images.  Original Atlantic labels have been replicated for this vinyl reissue.

These sultry, moving pop, soul and gospel-flavored selections showcase Springfield singer at the peak of her vocal artistry, and fills in a major gap in her discography.  If you missed Faithful the first time, this reissue just might be for you.  Look for it at the links below from Real Gone Music on July 16.

Such great news about this release! Are the liner notes the same as those that came with the 2015 CD of FAITHFUL?

Hi Eric, If I remember correctly, I slightly adapted the CD notes for the original vinyl release. I have not revised them further for this edition. Thanks, and all the best!

Such a wonderful album, I've been listening to a fan playlist on youtube for a few years, the cd seems out of print maybe? It sells for some high amounts, are there any plans to reissue the cd version that you might know about?

Thanks for everything about the site, appreciate it!
