Some years after a massive box set took a look at the work of British prog rockers Camel, Cherry Red's Esoteric imprint will break out some of that material in five expanded 2CD/Blu-ray presentations.

Reissues of Mirage (1974), Music Inspired by The Snow Goose (1975), Moonmadness (1976), Nude (1981) and Pressure Points: Live in Concert (1984) will roll out over the next few months from Esoteric, boasting expanded versions of the original albums remastered by engineer Ben Wiseman, as well as remixes of the four studio albums on CD (in stereo) and Blu-ray (in stereo and 5.1 surround) by engineer Stephen W. Tayler. Pressure Points will not be remixed or expanded, but will include the concert film of the same name, recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, on its accompanying Blu-ray; a live video from the same venue, recorded in 1976, will feature on the Moonmadness Blu-ray. (All this material was available on the mind-boggling, out-of-print Air Born (The MCA & Decca Years 1973-1984), a 27CD/5BD box set released nearly two years ago.)

One of the lesser-acclaimed prog heroes of the '70s, the instrumental-driven Camel first earned critical acclaim with their sophomore album, 1971's Mirage. Singer/guitarist/flautist Andrew Latimer, keyboardist Peter Bardens, bassist Doug Ferguson and drummer Andy Ward would release Music Inspired by The Snow Goose (based on the Paul Gallico novella of the same name) and Moonmadness over the next two years, each becoming their first of seven Top 40 albums in the U.K. over the next decade. From there, the band would undergo a lot of personnel changes; by the time they released 1981's Nude - a conceptual, mostly instrumental LP based on an actual Japanese soldier marooned on an island and unaware that World War II had long ended - Latimer and Ward were joined by Jan Schelhaas on keyboards and Colin Bass on...well, bass. The live Pressure Points would see Camel change even further, with Latimer and Bass joined by three keyboardists (Alan Parsons Project associate Chris Rainbow, Ton Scherpenzeel of Dutch band Kayak and Richie Close) and ex-10cc drummer Paul Burgess. (Latimer remains the nucleus of Camel, who have only released five studio albums since Pressure Points but have consistently toured.)
