3LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
The Blue Note Tone Poet series expands Sonny Rollins' classic live trio album recorded in New York City on November 3, 1957 with two different rhythm sections: Donald Bailey and Pete LaRoca (afternoon set), and Wilbur Ware and Elvin Jones (evening sets). Produced by Rudy Van Gelder, Rollins' sets formed the first live album recorded at the Village Vanguard. The concerts were issued over two volumes in 1987; this is the first time all of the material has been brought together on one collection as newly remastered from the original tapes by Kevin Gray. The booklet features rare photos by Francis Wolff and a new interview with Rollins conducted by Don Was. Available on 2 CDs or 3 LPs.
