Following a welcome box set of BBC recordings last year, Faces go back to the beginning with a disc of 10 previously unreleased alternates, outtakes and rehearsals that led to the group's 1970 debut First Step. These tracks feature the classic line-up of three Small Faces (drummer Kenny Jones and the sorely missed keyboardist Ian McLagan and bassist Ronnie Lane) and two veterans of The Jeff Beck Group (singer Rod Stewart and future Rolling Stone/recently anthologized guitarist Ronnie Wood) - a U.K. rock powerhouse. The set features liner notes by the band's longtime archival producer Rob Caiger.
