Craps (After Hours) [Expanded Edition]
Joining the label's expanded edition of his debut album, Omnivore delivers an expanded and remastered CD of Richard Pryor's Craps (After Hours). The 1971 LP was his first for Laff Records and was recorded in front of a predominantly black nightclub audience at Hollywood's Redd Foxx Club. (Foxx, the club's proprietor and a famously "blue" comedian, would find his greatest success starring in Sanford and Son, for which Pryor was once a writer.) In these clubs, Pryor took his art to the next
Richard Pryor [Expanded Edition]
Omnivore travels back to the groundbreaking early years of Richard Pryor with his self-titled debut album, originally released in 1968 on Reprise. The LP, recorded at the Troubadour, marked a move from his previous, middle-of-the-road comedy; it opened with the "Super N--er" routine and continued with piquant observations about "Girls," "Farting," "Smells," and "Army Life." The album has been expanded by Omnivore with a second disc of 21 tracks previously issued on Rhino's box set
Soulsville
After a near-decade-long break, Huey Lewis & The News finally re-emerged with a new album in 2010: Soulsville, an easygoing set of covers from the Stax Records songbook. But there was plenty of street cred to go around: the group recorded at Memphis' legendary Ardent Studios alongside one of the label's original engineers, Jim Gaines (who'd been at the desk for the band's blockbusters Sports and Fore!). Critics dug the inspired choices beyond notable hits like "Cry to Me" and "Respect
Plan B
BMG reissues Huey Lewis & The News' Plan B on CD. Plan B marked the group's first album of original studio material in a decade - their last full album, 1994's Four Chords and Seven Years Ago, was all covers - but the spark was still there: Mike Duke's "Let Her Go and Start Over" reached the Top 40 of Billboard's adult contemporary chart, and songs like "We're Not Here for a Long Time (We're Here for a Good Time)" and "So Little Kindness" (first recorded for a greatest hits record in 1996)
