Del Shannon
This 12CD box definitively captures the work of the man born Charles Weedon Westover, from early landmark hits like the chart-topper "Runaway," "Hats Off to Larry," and "Little Town Flirt," all the way to scores of posthumously released sessions. It comprises material from several labels, including Big Top, Amy, Liberty, ABC/Dunhill, United Artists, Warner Bros., and MCA, and includes a dozen unreleased tracks in its offering. In addition to a dozen original studio and live albums in Stranger in Town, you'll also find a trove of posthumous collections - 1967's shelved Home and Away album, released in its original mix nearly 50 years later; a 1977 session in Dublin; various '80s recordings in Nashville (four of which were released on singles by Warner Bros.) - and two discs of '60s outtakes and demos compiled by Bear Family for a comprehensive box set in 2014. The box comes with a 28-page book of liner notes by Alan Robinson, with rare photos and memorabilia rounding out the design in the package. Truly essential listening.
