In 1971, Alice Coltrane performed at Carnegie Hall at a gala benefit for the Integral Yoga Institute. Supported by Kumar Kramer and Tulsi Reynolds, playing harmonium and tamboura, respectively, and a large ensemble comprising two saxophonists (Pharoah Sanders and Archie Shepp), two bassists (Jimmy Garrison and Cecil McBee), and two drummers (Ed Blackwell and Clifford Jarvis), pianist-harpist-composer Coltrane captivated with two compositions from her recent album Journey in Satchidananda and two from her late husband, John Coltrane. Now, this concert is being released for the very first time as part of the Year of Alice, a year-long initiative from Verve and Impulse! Records and The John & Alice Coltrane Home. Available on 2CD, 2LP, and digitally.
