Again, we’re sorry to disappoint anybody. Like our friends at the labels, we have to endeavor to reach as broad an audience as possible. In today’s rapidly changing climate, a major part of that strategy is developing our readership through as many means of social media as possible. It’s not an exclusionary tactic, but rather an inclusionary one. Rest assured, we will continue to run email-based contests in the future for those of you not on Facebook, while continuing to gear other giveaways towards FB, Twitter, etc. Thanks for understanding, everybody.

These comment boxes for Second Disc are becoming a real rarity these days. So many other websites insist on going through Facebook/Twitter whatever, so it’s good that we can leave comments here without going through hoops… please keep it like this.

How do you know who is liking the facebook pages to enter the contests or just liking the page just because they like it?
Zubb
August 14, 2012 at 23:34
No fear, Zubb. As stated in the contest requirements, an entrant must like both pages AND leave a comment in the Beat thread. Fulfilling all three requirements constitutes an entry in the contest! Thanks!

Any chance the Graceland contest may be amended? I’ve been checking the Facebook page periodically since it was announced and the like counter has stalled for weeks, probably because everyone is holding out to be the lucky #1000 (I know I am…). With over 300 likes still needed to get to that point, it’s gonna take a while.

I’m not on Facebook either so, here’s yet another fab contest I can’t enter that I would really love to have a chance to win.

Facebook. Even Spotify require a Facebook account to engage with them. Keep the comments page please SD, it’s a great resource for extra info and discussions.
Ps If I could pick one reissue by Suede I would pick A New Morning. It was a great bounce back album after Head Music, which still had it moments here and there. Edsel did a fantastic job on the Suede titles, really putting some acts to shame with the wealth of material.

No fear, on-site comments are certainly not going anywhere. Rest assured, we will continue to run email-based contests in the future for those of you not on Facebook, while continuing to gear other giveaways towards FB, Twitter, etc. as we endeavor to broaden our reach to everyone. Thanks for understanding, folks.

Still like the facebook page, and am hoping to win the MMT Blu-ray, though it’s hard to pass up on the Deluxe set…

I really want that Magical Mystery Tour Blu Ray! I used to have the VHS boxset with Hard Day’s, Help, Magical, and First U.S. Visit – watched them endlessly as a kid along with The Compleat Beatles documentary. So happy ‘Tour’ is finally available again, haven’t seen it in YEARS!! Hope to win a copy : )

Here we go with yet another contest that’s only for Facebook users. Joe, please tell the labels to make these contests open to both FB users and NON users so that we all have a chance at winning instead of being shut out. I really would’ve liked a chance to win these early Steve Miller Band CD’s.

Here’s hoping Omnivore releases the Stack-A-Tracks disc to the general public before the end of the world as the Mayans predicted!

The Jellyfish performance of “The King Is Half-Undressed” from Letterman (find it on YouTube) is incredible. Drumming (standing up, no less) + singing, plus perfect harmonies. Swoon. No band has ever been able to equal Jellyfish’s talent…

Both group histories speak for themselves..Booker T place in R&B is set and Al Hudson has had both success in the dance/disco arena and R&B circles..And besides, both CD’s are good..Plain and simple.

You got that right William Holloway ..the Booker T cd is an gem you really can`t go wrong with Michael Stokes in the production chair.

Here we go again yet another Facebook Contest that’s not for those of us who do not have Facebook. Why not make it available to both readers ?!

Thanks for sharing your concerns, Steve. Just to reiterate something we’ve stated here in the past – Like our friends at the labels, we have to endeavor to reach as broad an audience as possible. A major part of that strategy is developing and growing our readership through social media. It’s not an exclusionary tactic, but rather an inclusionary one. Rest assured, we will continue to run email-based contests in the future for those of you not on Facebook, while continuing to gear other giveaways towards FB, Twitter, etc. In fact, the majority of our recent contests have been open via email as well as FB. Unfortunately, it’s not possible for every contest. Thanks for understanding.
