Never Gonna Give You Up. No, Really.

In a move that proves that any reissue is possible, or at least probable, the Edsel label has set an April 13 release date for expanded reissues of Rick Astley’s Whenever You Need Somebody and Hold Me in Your Arms. Yes, you are reading this right. You are also reading correctly that each reissue will be two discs with expanded liner notes by Pete Waterman Entertainment, Ltd. expert Tom Parker.

More info is here, here and here and a detailed tracklisting for each is after the jump.

  1. They are slaying this over at the ICE forums…I don’t get it. He moved a LOT of product in the late 80’s/early 90’s. If Echo and the Bunnymen or New Order can get revisited with extra tracks and such, why not Rick Astley?

I used to hate anything and everything 80’s music-wise. As I’ve gotten older and more nostalgic, I’ve softened on that stance somewhat. I still hate the 80’s “sound”, which to me is very high-endy, bass-light and digitally reverbed. I prefer more organic sounding stuff played on actual instruments. But I’m finding a lot of 80’s stuff that I like on second listen.
