The Setlist Situation, Part II

June 9, 2010 By Mike Duquette 1 Comment

A huge debt to Vintage Vinyl News for posting the track lists of the upcoming batch of Setlist compilations from Legacy Recordings.

If you haven't been following these titles, Sony's reissue label is releasing 11 budget-oriented live compilations (basically a live counterpart to their successful and sometimes collector-worthy Playlist series) on July 13. Happily, VVN's post (the information of which comes from Legacy itself) shows the discs seem rather forthcoming about recording information - and a few of the discs boast some rare or unreleased content!

Hit the jump to check everything out.Setlist: The Very Best of Alabama Live gets things off to a great start, with seven previously unreleased tracks (all sourced from the folks at Wolfgang's Vault, interestingly enough). The rest derive from Alabama's other two live LPs, Alabama Live (1988) and Gonna Have a Party...Live (1993).

  1. Tennessee River (Live @ the Salt Palace, Salt Lake City, UT 3/20/1981) *
  2. Why Lady Why (Live @ the University of Alabama Memorial Coliseum, Florence, AL 2/5/1982) *
  3. Mountain Music (Live @ the University of Alabama Memorial Coliseum, Florence, AL 2/5/1982) *
  4. Close Enough to Perfect (Live @ the University of Alabama Memorial Coliseum, Florence, AL 2/5/1982) *
  5. Take Me Down (Live @ the University of Alabama Memorial Coliseum, Florence, AL 2/5/1982) *
  6. Feels So Right (Live @ the University of Alabama Memorial Coliseum, Florence, AL 2/5/1982) *

Setlist: The Very Best of Blue Oyster Cult Live has a three hard-to-find tracks, one of which derives from a U.K.-only single and one of which derives from a promo single.

Setlist: The Very Best of Cheap Trick Live has no new tracks, probably since there are so many live albums to draw from. (Also, if you haven't guessed by now, Legacy hasn't given exact track-by-track details. Mike Duquette

Michael Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he discovered there was more than one version of John Williams' soundtrack to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, with bylines on catalog at Discogs, City Pages and Ultimate Prince and credits on titles including the Grammy-winning 'Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with an ever-expanding collection of music.

I should have known they would just trot out stuff that was already issued by Cheap Trick. Too much to hope for that this was anything more than a "cheap trick"!
