"Batman," "Krull" to Be Expanded by La-La Land

La-La Land Records has announced its next batch of catalogue soundtrack reissues - and they're two big names to fans of '80s action/fantasy films. Danny Elfman's iconic score to the 1989 film version of Batman and James Horner's music from Krull (1983) are getting lavish expanded releases for the month of July.

Batman, part of La-La Land's Expanded Archival Collection series, will feature, for the first time ever, the full score as originally performed in the film and sourced from the original film elements (Eric Tomlinson's 35mm four-track mixes, 1/4" stereo mixes and a stereo 35mm music-only track. The alternately mixed and recorded original soundtrack will be featured in remastered form on the second disc of the set, with never-before-heard bonus tracks. It will be limited to 5,000 copies and will likely be a sell-out.

Krull, one of James Horner's early landmarks, will be presented as a two-disc set that greatly expands upon the original LP presentation (and limited CD expansion from two decades ago) while featuring bonus tracks from the original LP set. It will be limited to 3,000 copies.

These sets, along with a new score (John Debney's highly-recommended soundtrack to Predators), will be available to order on July 27, but lucky fans attending this year's San Diego Comic-Con (to be held July 22-25) will have a chance to buy them directly from La-La Land's booth (and, perhaps, get Batman signed by Elfman, who will be attending this year's Con).

Mike Duquette

Michael Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he discovered there was more than one version of John Williams' soundtrack to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, with bylines on catalog at Discogs, City Pages and Ultimate Prince and credits on titles including the Grammy-winning 'Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with an ever-expanding collection of music.
