- Could a release of Let It Be, The Beatles' harrowing 1970 documentary/epitaph, finally be happening? Director Michael Lindsay-Hogg says so. In an interview with WNYC-FM, Lindsay-Hogg discussed the film, saying, "we have been been working on it pretty much every year for the last couple of years. And the plan is, at the moment, to have it come out, I think, in 2013." A premiere release of the DVD, featuring outtakes and additional footage highlighting the making of the film, would follow a planned DVD release of the Magical Mystery Tour film in 2012. - We're not quite near 2012 and any reissue plans just yet, but there's at least one big one on the horizon for '80s rock fans. Scottish rockers Big Country, recently reunited with Mike Peters of The Alarm filling in for the late Stuart Adamson on vocals (original member Bruce Watson's son Jamie is also a new member), have announced a U.K. tour in winter 2012 where they will play their killer debut The Crossing in its entirety - and, according to the band's press release, that album - with the uplifting Top 40 hit "In a Big Country" - will be reissued by Universal Music in a variety of formats. (The album has been expanded twice before in 1996 and 2002, featuring various B-sides on the first release and the Wonderland EP on the second.) WOW - hope this comes to pass. There's no good reason for the remaining lads to be so stodgy about it. And there's plenty of material for bonus features.
I also had no idea about a reissue of MMT, which I absolutely love.

I'm not usually pessimistic about these sort of things, but a Let it Be DVD is the one major "I'll believe it when I'm putting the disc in the player" for me.

Of course... Just after I bought a bootleg DVD of the movie (likely from the same laserdisc that The Thorn mentioned)! Then again, it only cost me $10 and it sound like this DVD is at least two years away. If it happens at all.
Since it's not mentioned here, I'm going to ask... Is there ANY word on plans to reissue Yellow Submarine? It was available (briefly) maybe 12 years ago? I never got around to buying it, then it quietly disappeared. I never understood why it went out of print. You can still get A Hard Day's Night and Help! easily enough.
I shoud also mention that a DVD reissue of Magical Mystery Tour, but no talk of Yellow Submarine, is ludicrous. One is a bonfide classic, beloved film that was pretty influential in animation and pop-art, the other a widely panned TV special that, in spite of the great music, is pretty terrible.
MMT is an interesting oddity, worth seeing once if you've never seen it before, but that's about it.
Well Shaun it might have been only a LIMITED EDITION with a few outlets carring it.But I read there was trouble again with the distributers (UNITED ARTISTS) vs. APPLE Corp just like the first time it was in trouble back in '87(That's why it took from '88-'99 to re-release it to today's technology.)Yellow Submarine would look totally awesome in HD Bluray.The'99 re-release on laserdisc(which I transfered to a dvd-r),is the second best.
