2LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada

Moving in Stereo: The Best of The Cars, a new single-disc compilation, rounds up the best of the band's output from their entire career, including their incredible run on Elektra Records and even the band's 2011 effort Move Like This. (That last record was, of course, only a partial reunion, after the passing of vocalist/bassist Benjamin Orr in 2000.)  The collection includes 18 tracks, including the rare single mix of "I'm Not the One" included on the band's original Greatest Hits album, and two unreleased tracks: a live version of "Everything You Say" from the band's final Elektra albumDoor to Door (1987) and a remix of "Sad Song" from Move Like This.  Ted Jensen has remastered under Ric Ocasek's supervision.  Available on CD and vinyl.  Read more here!

I hadn't heard about the Move reissues; I'd figured that the expanded editions on Salvo were more or less definitive. The Esoteric versions will have a ton of BBC recordings and some additional unreleased material, so they look like they'll be the new go-to editions. "Looking On" and "Something Else" are also on the horizon, a few weeks out, meaning they're reissuing the whole Move core catalog (minus "Message from the Country" which was on a different label and therefore has a different structure with rights, etc.)

Apparently Real Gone is issuing all of the Sony/BMG titles in the Essential series that were previously only available as digital downloads. That makes five titles so far: Johhny Paycheck, Dan Fogelberg, Air Supply, Edgar Winter and Dave Mason.

Wonder who is mastering the Move releases? The original Salvo's were compressed and loud but had better tape sources.

Remastering on both reissues is credited to Ben Wiseman, from tape transfers by Rob Keyloch. Peter Mew at Abbey Road transferred and restored the three-song 1966 acetate on "Move" at Abbey Road. Hope this helps!
