Truer Faith: New Order to Update "Singles" Collection

One of the best New Order compilations on the market is getting even better.

Warner Music is reissuing the band's Singles in a remastered and updated version, to be released almost 11 years after its first release as a 2CD or 4LP set. The collection, which originally collected the band's A-sides from 1981 to 2005, adds one more track: "I'll Stay with You," from the 2013 collection Lost Sirens, which featured outtakes from 2005's Waiting for the Sirens' Call. (Lost Sirens also featured the last studio work with original bassist Peter Hook, who departed the group in 2007.)

But the new Singles is more than a slightly expanded edition--it corrects several of the biggest criticisms against the set. Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road, who oversaw The Smiths'Complete box set for Rhino), has newly remastered all 32 tracks "sourced from high quality transfers," improving the much-derided loudness and compression of the original set. Additionally, seven of the tracks are presented in their proper single edits or mixes, which had not occurred on the original edition.

Warner's press release bills the new Singles as "a considerable upgrade on the previous version of the album," and based on the info they're giving, they may be right. Fans can find out when Singles is reissued on September 9.

The revised track list and pre-order links can be found below!

Mike Duquette

Michael Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he discovered there was more than one version of John Williams' soundtrack to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, with bylines on catalog at Discogs, City Pages and Ultimate Prince and credits on titles including the Grammy-winning 'Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with an ever-expanding collection of music.
