The Bicycle Music Company, which purchased '00s alt-rock label Wind-Up Records in 2015, will release a vinyl box set devoted to one of the label's biggest acts: Evanescence.
In the middle of the 2000s, the Little Rock, Arkansas-born Evanescence were one of the hottest rock acts around. Founded around the haunting voice of Amy Lee and the smart hard-rock guitar of Ben Moody, the band were a hit straight out the gate. Debut album Fallen sold 7 million copies in the U.S. and spent more than a year in the Billboard 200, and the hard-driving "Bring Me to Life" and the emotional ballad "My Immortal" were Top 10 hits on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 2004, the group won two Grammy Awards including Best New Artist; however, with Moody having left the band the previous fall, it paved the way for a revolving door of artists around Lee. But both subsequent studio albums, The Open Door (2006) and Evanescence (2011), topped the Billboard 200, with the 2006 single "Call Me When You're Sober" becoming another international Top 10 hit.
After a three-year hiatus, the group performed a small handful of shows in 2015, culminating in an appearance on the Ozzfest stage in Japan. Lee issued her first solo album, Dream Too Much, in September, featuring new original material targeted to kids and families.
The Ultimate Collection features, on six vinyl albums, the band's full studio discography on 180-gram vinyl. In addition to Fallen, The Open Door (a double LP) and Evanescence, the box features the first wide release of Origin, a 2000 self-released demo collection; plus Lost Whispers, a rarities disc featuring four unreleased tracks, including a new version of Origin's "Even In Death." A 52-page book of handwritten lyrics, artwork and photos rounds out the package.
