On February 10, Rhino Records and Parlophone will continue the long-running series of David Bowie 7" vinyl picture disc singles with the release of "Sound and Vision" in time for the classic song's 40th anniversary.
"Sound and Vision" was released almost forty years ago to the day of this reissue - February 11, 1977 - in the United Kingdom from Bowie's Low, the first album in the artist's storied Berlin Trilogy created in collaboration with co-producer Tony Visconti and Brian Eno, among other fine musicians. The title gained further notoriety as the title of his career-spanning Rykodisc box set and a 1990 tour; the song was also heard (in Bowie's recording) in his 2015 stage musical Lazarus.
The A-side of the upcoming single features a newly-remastered version of the original track, while the B-side offers the 2013 remix of the song for the first time on vinyl. This remix, by Sonjay Prabhakar, was originally created for a Sony XPeria mobile phone advertisement. It strips the song down with the lead by Bowie and backing vocal by "Those Were the Days" singer Mary Hopkin (then Mrs. Tony Visconti), adding new piano accompaniment.
The picture disc edition of "Sound and Vision" is due from Rhino/Parlophone on February 10. Order links are not yet available, but watch this space!
