Get It Up: Chickenfoot to Issue Greatest Hits Collection

Fans of the rock supergroup Chickenfoot are in for a treat with the forthcoming release of a double-disc collection that includes their greatest hits and live cuts, plus a few unreleased surprises.

Chickenfoot featured four of the best hard rock musicians anyone could expect to find in one band: from Van Halen, vocalist Sammy Hagar and founding bassist Michael Anthony; guitarist Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. (Hagar, Anthony and Satriani had previously worked together in the short-lived supergroup Planet Us in the early 2000s, alongside Neal Schon and Seen Castronovo of Journey.) The group’s two hard-hitting albums, released in 2009 and 2011, were both successful, reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 (their self-titled debut also went gold for 500,000 copies sold). And the quartet were an in-demand live act, mixing their own originals with a handful of classic covers along the way.

While things have been quiet on the Chickenfoot front (mostly owing to Smith’s ongoing commitments with the Chili Peppers, which led to Kenny Aronoff drumming in his stead on the group’s last full tour), the new BEST+LIVE set is a fine love letter to fans in the meantime. It includes 10 tracks from the group’s two studio albums; the newly-recorded “Divine Termination” (praised by Satriani as “bone crunching, hell raising rock, dripping with attitude and vibe” in the official press release); live covers of Deep Purple (“Highway Star”), The Who (“My Generation”) and Hagar’s former band Montrose (“Bad Motor Scooter”); and more than a dozen live tracks from a 2009 gig in Phoenix (first released on the DVD Get Your Buzz On LIVE and making their CD debuts here).

Best+LIVE is available March 10 and can be pre-ordered below!

Mike Duquette

Michael Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he discovered there was more than one version of John Williams' soundtrack to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, with bylines on catalog at Discogs, City Pages and Ultimate Prince and credits on titles including the Grammy-winning 'Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with an ever-expanding collection of music.
