Dion, Kickin' Child: The Lost Album 1965 (Norton) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

Norton Records has rounded up 15 songs recorded by Dion DiMucci and his group The Wanderers with producer Tom Wilson over sessions between spring and fall of 1965.  It all adds up to a trailblazing folk-rock album featuring original songs and covers of Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton, and Mort Shuman.  Also available on vinyl.  Read more here!

Brinsley Schwarz, It's All Over Now  (Mega Dodo)

More than 40 years after it was recorded, legendary pub rock outfit Brinsley Schwarz's final studio album It's All Over Now is finally hitting record stores!  Recorded in 1974, the album sat unreleased as the band's members went their separate ways.  But now, U.K. label Mega Dodo, which released a live collection from the band in 2015, will release an official version of It's All Over Now with ten previously unreleased tracks plus the original band version of "Cruel to Be Kind," first issued as a B-side by Nick Lowe in 1978.  Available on CD and vinyl.  Read more here!

Various Artists, American Epic: The Collection (Legacy) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

This 5-CD treasure trove, executive produced by T Bone Burnett, Jack White and Robert Redford, brings together 100 recordings from the 1920s and 1930s, compiled by Bernard MacMahon, director of the American Epic film series (to air on PBS) and restored for optimal sound quality.  Among the legendary artists represented on this collection are Ma Rainey, Mississippi John Hurt, The Carter Family, Charley Patton, Jimmie Rodgers, Lydia Mendoza, Nelstone's Hawaiians, Big Chief Henry's String Band, and Robert Johnson - in short, some of the folk and blues heroes responsible for shaping the sound of American music.  These tracks have been organized geographically by the recording location.  The book-style package contains 96 pages including track-by-track notes with full lyrics, making for an integral component of this compelling package.  A single-disc iteration is also available.  Watch for our review soon!

Stephen Sondheim, Stavisky: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Quartet) (Screen Archives)

This first-ever expanded CD release of Stephen Sondheim's 1974 film score for Alain Resnais' Stavisky has been released by Spain's Quartet Records as a limited edition of 500 copies...but Screen Archives still has a few, so if you thought you missed out on this one, here's your chance!  As orchestrated by Jonathan Tunick, Stavisky fits right into the composer's Follies/A Little Night Music-era oeuvre, and even features some music originally intended for Follies.

Various Artists, Sing It High, Sing It Low: Tumbleweed Records 1971-1973 (Light in the Attic) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

Light in the Attic collects 10 tracks from the short-lived Tumbleweed Records label, co-founded by future Eagles producer Bill Szymczyk to spotlight its own brand of rock, Colorado-style.  Artists include Arthur Gee, Michael Stanley, Pete McCabe, Robb Kunkel, Danny Hollen, and Dewey Terry (of Don and Dewey).  Also available on vinyl.

JOE MARCHESE (Editor) joined The Second Disc shortly after its launch in early 2010, and has since penned daily news and reviews about classic music of all genres. In 2015, Joe formed the Second Disc Records label. Celebrating the great songwriters, producers and artists who created the sound of American popular song, Second Disc Records, in conjunction with Real Gone Music, has released newly-curated collections produced by Joe from iconic artists such as Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Laura Nyro, Melissa Manchester, Chet Atkins, and many others. He has contributed liner notes to reissues from a diverse array of artists, among them Nat "King" Cole, Paul Williams, Lesley Gore, Dusty Springfield, B.J. Thomas, The 5th Dimension, Burt Bacharach, The Mamas and the Papas, Carpenters, Perry Como, Rod McKuen, Doris Day, Jackie DeShannon, and Andy Williams, and has compiled releases for talents including Robert Goulet and Keith Allison of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Over the past two decades, Joe has also worked in a variety of capacities on and off Broadway as well as at some of the premier theatres in the U.S., including Lincoln Center Theater, George Street Playhouse, Paper Mill Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, and the York Theatre Company. He has felt privileged to work on productions alongside artists such as the late Jack Klugman, Eli Wallach, Arthur Laurents, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. In 2009, Joe began contributing theatre and music reviews to the print publication The Sondheim Review, and in 2012, he joined the staff of The Digital Bits as a regular contributor writing about film and television on DVD and Blu-ray. Joe currently resides in the suburbs of New York City.

      Earl I read the other day that their was a problem with the cds and would be a delay with them
