Beach House Plan 'B-Sides and Rarities' Album

The atmospheric psych-rock of Baltimore duo Beach House continues to win over swaths of fans, both on the road and from their studio albums (2015 saw the release of two albums including Depression Cherry, the group's second U.S. Top 10 effort). Now, they're taking time to look back on a new compilation.

B-Sides and Rarities scoops up 14 non-album cuts, hidden tracks and outtakes in one handy collection. Spanning from the release of their debut album in 2005 and stopping a decade later at the Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars sessions, it's the place to find rarities like the original single version of the track "Used to Be," the "holiday song" "I Do Not Care for the Winter Sun," released for free in 2010 and newly mastered for this album, and even a cover of Queen's "Play the Game" for a 4AD AIDS benefit compilation. (The band says royalties will still go to charity as planned.)

"Over the years, as we have worked on our six LPs, it wasn't the 'best' or most catchy songs that made the records, just the ones that fit together to make a cohesive work," the duo (consisting of French-born, Nico-esque vocalist/keyboardist Victoria  Legrand and guitarist/bassist Alex Scally) said of B-Sides and Rarities. "Accordingly, our B-sides are not songs that we didn't like as much, just ones that didn't have a place on the records we were making."

The compilation, out June 30, is available on CD or LP, with Sub Pop's store offering a clear vinyl "loser edition" variant. Amazon links and the full track list are below!

Mike Duquette

Michael Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he discovered there was more than one version of John Williams' soundtrack to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, with bylines on catalog at Discogs, City Pages and Ultimate Prince and credits on titles including the Grammy-winning 'Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with an ever-expanding collection of music.

I can't wait for this! I've been a fan of just about everything I've heard from them.
