Devo Demos Recombo'd for Vinyl

June 22, 2017 By Mike Duquette 1 Comment

PRE-ORDER FROM FUTURISMO

Devo's demo collection Recombo DNA will be expanded and reissued this year in a special 4LP vinyl edition from the Futurismo label.

Released as a limited 2CD set in 2000 by Rhino Handmade, Recombo DNA collected unreleased demos, alternates and outtakes of the legendary Akron band recorded during their tenure on Warner Bros. Records between 1977 and 1987. Versions of familiar tracks like "Be Stiff," "Girl U Want," "Whip It" and others are all here.

Futurismo's version is pressed on quadruple vinyl, adding excerpts of audio interviews with band members Gerald Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh and six additional unreleased bonus tracks, including demos from the band's most recent album, Something For Everybody (2010). An additional mini CD features one more unreleased track, "The Something Suite," recorded in 1989.

This 140-gram vinyl pressing includes new artwork, new liner notes by Casale and a double-sided poster. "Petri Dish," "Molecular Mutation" and "Emergency Codes" color variants will all be available, as will bundles that include a Devo lab coat. The new reissue is out August 11 and can be pre-ordered now at the preceding links!

Mike Duquette

Mike Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he was a teenager. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, holding positions at Legacy Recordings and Rhino Records and contributing to Allmusic, Discogs, City Pages, Ultimate Classic Rock and Mondo Records, for whom he penned liner notes for his favorite piece of music: John Williams' Oscar-winning score to 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with his wife, a cat named Ravioli, twin daughters and a large yet tasteful collection of music.

Seems kinda pricey. I do want it though.
Too bad it's not on black vinyl as well.
