Home Again: Carole King Brings "Tapestry: Live in Hyde Park" to CD/DVD in September

On July 3, 2016, those people in and around London's Hyde Park could feel the earth move.  That was the date that Carole King performed her first U.K. show in 27 years, performing her complete Tapestry album in front of 65,000 enrapt fans.  Now, King's performance of the seminal 1971 album - and a few additional favorite songs - is coming to CD/DVD on September 1 in a new package from Legacy Recordings and Rockingale Records.

Carole King had nothing to prove when she decamped from New York to Los Angeles at the dawn of the 1970s.  With then-husband Gerry Goffin, King had already become one of the most successful songwriters of all time, penning such instant classics as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "Up on the Roof" and "Natural Woman."  But King intended to break out from her behind-the-scenes songwriters' cubicle to the other side of the footlights.  Fronting a band called The City in 1968, she titled her first full-length LP Now That Everything's Been Said. Though that album boasted such irresistible songs as "Snow Queen," "Hi-De-Ho (That Old Sweet Roll)" and the infectious title track, King actually had much, much more to say.  The singer, pianist and songwriter began her solo career, proper, in 1970 with Writer, and had the breakthrough the following year with Tapestry.  The Lou Adler-produced LP yielded three number one pop hits ("It's Too Late" and "I Feel the Earth Move" by King, and "You've Got a Friend" as covered by James Taylor, who played on the album) and four Grammy Awards, and became one of the most enduring, timeless classics of not just the nascent singer-songwriter movement, but of all pop history.

Tapestry - Live in Hyde Park celebrates the 45th anniversary performance of the album's release.  The concert had King performing in front of her largest audience since her 1973 show in New York's Central Park, and also marked the first occasion she had performed the entire Tapestry album onstage.  She was joined by guitarist Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, who famously played on the original album, as well as daughter Louise Goffin and the West End cast of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.  The CD/DVD package includes the full concert as well as reflections from King on DVD about the making of Tapestry.

Prior to the September 1 home release, the concert film will be screened on July 11 in cinemas across the United States.  The movie presentation will include an interview with King, introduction by WCBS-FM deejay Scott Shannon, and appearances by Tom Hanks, Elton John, Graham Nash, Lou Adler, Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, James Taylor, David Crosby, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.  You can find information at FathomEvents.com.  In addition, a television version of Live at Hyde Park will begin airing in September on public television stations.

Tapestry: Live in Hyde Park is due from Legacy and Rockingale Records on September 1, and can be pre-ordered at the links below!
