Vinyl enthusiasts and fans of Belinda Carlisle have quite the package to look forward to this year, when Edsel releases a vinyl box set edition of her second solo album, 1987's Heaven On Earth, for its 30th anniversary.
The former Go-Go's frontwoman hit it big with her first solo single, the Top 5 hit "Mad About You," a year prior in 1986. But Heaven On Earth is what established Carlisle as a solo performer for the '80s and '90s, with three Top 10 hits in the U.S. and the U.K. with the chart-topping "Heaven is a Place On Earth," "I Get Weak" and "Circle in the Sand." The album was Belinda's best seller, and its songs still resonate all these years later.
Edsel's striking 4LP/1CD box set is essentially a large version of the label's 2013 expanded edition of the same album, including all the audio content (the original album, single and 12" mixes) plus five live bonus tracks from the Good Heavens Tour of 1988, all on individually sleeved LPs. (That tour was represented on a DVD in that expanded package.) The accompanying CD includes the original album plus three bonus tracks. One is a new acoustic cover of "Heaven" which will also be available on Wilder Shores, Belinda's new album released alongside the box set on September 29. The disc is rounded out with another exclusive cover, of the Delaney and Bonnie/Carpenters/Luther Vandross classic "Superstar" plus the brand-new "Why," written by Belinda and fellow former Go-Go Charlotte Caffey.
The set's booklet features photos from Belinda's personal collection, lyrics and commentary from Belinda, album producer Rick Nowels and songwriters Diane Warren and Ellen Shipley. Full specs and the Amazon U.K. link are below.
