Motörhead Go “Under Cöver” With New Compilation in September

July 26, 2017 By Mike Duquette Leave a Comment

The spirit of Motörhead lives on with a rockin’ collection of the band’s various cover songs due in September.

Under Cöver compiles 11 of the band’s cover songs from the last 25 years of their career–featuring the band’s most consistent lineup of late frontman/bassist Lemmy Kilmister, guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee. Only a handful of the covers (including interpretations of Judas Priest, The Rolling Stones, Twisted Sister, Metallica and others) were released on studio albums, with many making their appearances either as bonus tracks or compilation songs.

But it wouldn’t be a typical compilation without some rarities. In this case, it’s a bittersweet cover of “Heroes” by David Bowie (who, ironically, died only weeks after Lemmy at the start of 2016), recorded during the sessions for the band’s final album, Bad Magic. Though it’s not touted as unreleased, the cover of the Ramones’ “Rockaway Beach” appears to have been slated for the album We’re a Happy Family: A Tribute to Ramones but ultimately not included on that set.

Under Cöver will be available on CD, 180-gram LP or a deluxe box set that combines both formats with a laminate and jacket patch. All of them will be in stores worldwide September 1, with only Amazon U.K. links for the first two formats active at this time.

Mike Duquette

Michael Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he discovered there was more than one version of John Williams' soundtrack to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, with bylines on catalog at Discogs, City Pages and Ultimate Prince and credits on titles including the Grammy-winning 'Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with an ever-expanding collection of music.
