Insatiable One: Suede Expand Debut Album for 25th Anniversary

In 1992, before Suede had even issued a single song, Melody Maker put the London group on its cover, deeming them "The Best New Band in Britain." With praise like that - and considering everything that followed - it's no surprise Edsel is reissuing the album as a multi-disc box set for its 25th anniversary in March.

Suede: 25th Anniversary Silver Edition is the ultimate presentation of the group's chart-topping, Mercury Prize-winning, best-selling 1993 debut. It features the original album, a disc of B-sides, an assortment of demos and outtakes (including material not included on Edsel's initial deluxe edition of the album from 2011), unreleased BBC sessions, a live show from Sheffield recorded a month before the album's release and a DVD of rare TV performances (including the band's first appearances on British airwaves) and an hour of singer/lyricist Brett Anderson and guitarist/pianist/principal songwriter Bernard Butler discussing the album with journalist Pete Paphides.

Still considered one of the year's best (as well as one of its fastest-selling), Suede helped kickstart what is now known as the wave of Britpop that gripped England's music charts in the mid-'90s, including Oasis, Pulp and Radiohead. The album's third single, "Animal Nitrate," became their first of eight U.K. Top 10 hits, while preceding single "Metal Mickey" ended up on the Top 10 of Billboard's modern rock chart.

The box also contains liner notes by Anderson about his memories of making the album, plus lyrics and images from the band's archive. It's due out in England on March 30, 25 years and a day after the album's initial release date.

Mike Duquette

Mike Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he was a teenager. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, holding positions at Legacy Recordings and Rhino Records and contributing to Allmusic, Discogs, City Pages, Ultimate Classic Rock and Mondo Records, for whom he penned liner notes for his favorite piece of music: John Williams' Oscar-winning score to 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with his wife, a cat named Ravioli, twin daughters and a large yet tasteful collection of music.
