Run Out Groove has had one busy winter. The label just announced two exciting projects for Record Store Day (Saturday, April 21) from The Beau Brummels and Baby Huey, as well as revealing its next limited edition deluxe vinyl release.
Judee Sill's Songs of Rapture and Redemption: Rarities & Live is an all-new 2-LP collection celebrating the late artist whose two solo Asylum Records albums - Judee Sill and Heart Food - remain strikingly original works from a singular talent. ROG's release boasts rare demos and live recordings never before available on vinyl. Among these are seven songs from her October 3, 1971 performance at the Boston Music Hall including "Lady-O" (recorded by The Turtles in 1969) and "Jesus Was a Cross Maker" (famously covered by The Hollies and others); two outtakes from Judee Sill; eight demos and an outtake from the Heart Food sessions; and a home demo of "Jesus Was a Cross Maker." Expect an intimate and revealing look at Sill's artistry.
The limited edition of Songs of Rapture and Redemption: Rarities & Live will be available to pre-order directly from Run Out Groove until April 8, 2018 and then pressed and numbered to a limited quantity based on total orders. It will feature new liner notes and artwork, and the high production values with which the label is already associated.
In addition, voting is now open for ROG's next round of titles! The label has introduced three new LPs this month (descriptions provided by ROG) for your vote as to which one you'd like to see released next:
Bettye Lavette - The 1972 Muscle Shoals Sessions: If voted to win, this brand new collection from the rapturous soul singer would include all the recordings she did at the famed Muscle Shoals Studios for Atlantic Records in 1972 making their debut on vinyl. Deluxe packaging to include a single sleeve Stoughton tip-on jacket, brand new artwork and liner notes with lacquers cut at Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis. If voted in, fans will be given the opportunity to vote on 3 different cover art choices! [JM: Bettye's new album - a Bob Dylan songbook album entitled Things Have Changed - is due on March 30, and ROG's potential vinyl release should make for a perfect companion!]
Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks - Mr. Dynamo: If voted to win, ROG will bring back the Rockabilly king's second record for Roulette, issue it in its original 1959 sleeve art and press on red vinyl as originally released and now very rare. Deluxe packaging to include a single sleeve Stoughton tip-on jacket with 180g red vinyl pressed at Record Industry.
Sons of Freedom - Sons of Freedom: If voted to win, the Canadian alt-rockers' debut for Slash will be reissued for the first time since the original release in 1988, mastered from the original source and we'll throw in some unreleased bonus tracks for good measure. Deluxe packaging to include a single sleeve Stoughton tip-on jacket with 180g multi-color vinyl pressed at Record Industry. Fans would get the opportunity to vote on the color way of the vinyl.
As for previous winners, the great soul man Lou Johnson's Sweet Southern Soul LP is expected to ship around March 23, Ministry's Greatest Fits is expected to ship in mid-April, Solomon Burke's The Best of Atlantic Soul 1962-1965 is projected to ship around the first or second week of May, and Golden Smog's Down By The Old Mainstream will most likely ship in early June.

I ordered the Soloman Burke lp in January and it isn't shipping until May??? Far cry from the 6-8 weeks they claimed. I have a hunch that RSD releases have production backed up at the pressing plants. This is why they never replied to inquiries I've seen on their Facebook page.
This is the first album I've ordered from ROG. Not sure who chooses what gets voted on, but most don't appeal to me. Never heard any music from Judee Sill, but know of her.
I'd like to get the Baby Huey RSD album, but fat chance I'll be out that day.
