Prince, Nothing Compares 2 U (Warner Bros.) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Prince's original recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U" arrives on vinyl today for wide release. The original Prince studio version was recorded at the Flying Cloud Warehouse in Eden Prairie, Minnesota by engineer Susan Rogers and featured background vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul "St. Paul" Peterson as well as saxophone by Eric Leeds. Prince composed, arranged, and otherwise performed the track entirely by himself. This 7-inch vinyl single has an edit of the song on Side One, and the full version on Side Two.

Various Artists, Technicolor Paradise: Rhum Rhapsodies and Other Exotic Delights (Numero Group) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Numero Group is conjuring up a world of tikis, palm trees, and colorful drinks - in other words, a Technicolor Paradise. After years of successfully excavating the rarest soul, jazz, R&B, New Age, and more, the label has turned its attention to the realm of exotica. The genre's blend of lounge, jazz, pop and all sounds beyond inspired a number of artists who didn't receive the same attention as, say, Martin Denny, Yma Sumac, Arthur Lyman, and Esquivel. An alternate history of exotica appears on Technicolor Paradise: Rhum Rhapsodies and Other Exotic Delights, which is coming on 3 CDs (54 songs) or 3 LPs (48 songs).
Malo, Latin Bugaloo: The Warner Bros. Singles (Omnivore) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Latin Bugaloo: The Warner Bros. Singles collects all fourteen A- and B-sides released by Latin rock band Malo on Warner Bros. Records between 1971 and 1973. The Bay Area band blended funk, soul, rock, and jazz, and augmented its raw, powerful sound with a horn section. As Malo was known for its extended jamming, all of the singles were cut down to radio-friendly length; accordingly, the tracks here have been sourced from the original single masters. Latin Bugaloo includes the hit "Suavecito" as well as a single only released in Turkey containing "Pana" b/w "Just Say Goodbye."
Barclay James Harvest, Barclay James Harvest (Cherry Red/Esoteric)
1CD (Disc One of below set only): Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
3CD/1DVD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
Cherry Red's Esoteric imprint has the debut of Barclay James Harvest as a lavish 3-CD/1-DVD box set or a simple 1-CD highlights edition. The box includes a 68-page book with rare photos, liner notes by Keith and Monika Domone, a replica tour program and press releases, and a record store poster for the "Early Morning" single release. The single-disc edition, housed in a slim digipak, includes Disc One of the box set only (the original stereo mix only plus nine bonus tracks, for a total of 16 cuts) as well as a 24-page booklet with the Domones' liner notes. Both editions of Barclay James Harvest have been remastered by Paschal Byrne. Read more here!
Selections from Redhead/La Pelirroja (Stage Door Records) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The U.K.'s Stage Door label brings together two albums related to the 1959 Broadway murder mystery musical Redhead. The production, which starred Gwen Verdon and was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse, inspired a studio cast album of the Albert Hague/Dorothy Fields score. The recording was made in London under the direction of Hill Bowen (leader of many Living Strings recordings for Camden) and featured Rita Williams, Bryan Johnson, Fred Lucas, and The Mike Sammes Singers. This rare LP is being paired on one CD with RCA Victor Mexico's 1960 Mexican cast recording of the show. Translated as La Pelirroja, it starred Virma Gonzalez, Armando Calvo, and the young Placido Domingo. Three additional bonus tracks round out this CD: pop versions of Redhead songs by Tommy Leonetti, Art Lund, and Toni Arden. This release is housed in a paper sleeve and is limited to 500 units.
The Smithereens, Covers (Sunset Blvd.) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
This new collection features 20 of The Smithereens' favorite songs performed in the band's inimitable style, including some previously unreleased tracks. Selections include The Beach Boys' "Girl Don't Tell Me," Ringo Starr's "It Don't Come Easy," The Beatles' "One After 909," Frank and Nancy Sinatra's "Something Stupid," Bruce Springsteen's "Downbound Train," and The Who's "The Seeker."
Jennifer Warnes, Another Time, Another Place (BMG Rights Management) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The beloved singer returns with her first studio album since 2001's The Well. Another Time, Another Place reunites her with co-producer Roscoe Beck (Famous Blue Raincoat) as they tackle songs by Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Mark Knopfler, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, and more.
The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Play It Again, Marvin! (Varese Sarabande) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Varese Sarabande preserves a performance by The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra in tribute to the late, great Marvin Hamlisch. The orchestra is joined by vocalists Sylvia McNair, Doug LaBrecque, and Judy Harrison on a program including such songs as "Nobody Does It Better," "The Way We Were," "They're Playing My Song," "If You Remember Me," "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows" and much more!

It is so nice to finally have a new Jennifer Warnes album. If only it didn't take her 17 years to put out new music.

The Prince 45 is truly gorgeous. I've managed to avoid all of the other Prince vinyl reissues (originals FTW), but this was a fantastic release. Keep em coming, Estate...
