The next Super Deluxe box set from Led Zeppelin was officially announced early this morning. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham took the famous stage at New York's Madison Square Garden on July 27-29, 1973 for the concerts that were captured in the film The Song Remains the Same. Now that film's soundtrack, produced by Page and originally released on Swan Song in 1976, is getting the lavish reissue treatment on September 7.
The Song Remains the Same follows the recent expansion of How the West Was Won and concludes the band's series of reissues which began in 2014. The release will lead into Zeppelin's 50th anniversary celebration; the quartet played their first show together as The New Yardbirds on September 7, 1968. Like past titles in this series, The Song Remains the Same features audio newly remastered under the supervision of Page. It will arrive in multiple formats from Atlantic/Swan Song, including the album's 5.1 surround debut on Blu-ray Audio. The Super Deluxe box set is also promised to be the most lavish in the series, recreating the intricate embossing of the set's original issue. The Super Deluxe box will also mark the first time the original, full-length film and soundtrack have been available in the same package.
The Song Remains the Same will be available as follows:
- 2CD - Remastered audio on two CDs, plus 24-page booklet.
- 4LP Vinyl - Remastered audio on four 180-gram vinyl LPs, plus 28-page booklet. (Note that Jimmy Page has made a change to the track sequence here to allow the 29-minute version of "Dazed and Confused" to be included in its entirety on one side of vinyl for the first time.)
- Blu-Ray Audio - 96kHz/24 bit 5.1 (DTS-HD Master Audio Surround) and stereo mixes (PCM Stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo). Also includes video performances of four songs not in the original film: "Celebration Day," "Over The Hills And Far Away," "Misty Mountain Hop," and "The Ocean." (All with 5.1 audio)

Ah...remastering of the night of the Drake Hotel robbery in NYC.
The first and only time I saw Zeppelin.
Shaun says
So... no additional songs on the CD? No expanded edition?
The ONLY reason I would possibly consider buying this is if this remastered edition restores the edits/missing parts made to the previous remaster (Of just a few years ago, I might add).
Fix your previous transgressions, Jimmy, and maybe I’ll buy this.
Either way though, this is mostly a shrug. How about opening the vaults for some great, historic concerts?
Roger Taylor says
I am curious if this remaster is of the original released version of the album/CDs and not the different mix that is on the Blu-ray/newer DVDs and Expanded CDs from 2007,
