Freak Out! Vintage-Style CHIC Mixes Shine On New Dimitri From Paris Set

August 20, 2018 By Joe Marchese 2 Comments

In 2010, Dimitri from Paris was invited to remix a number of tracks from the venerable CHIC catalogue for The CHIC Organization Box Set. Vol. 1: Savoir Faire.  The Turkish-born, French music producer and DJ's remixed takes on classics like "I Want Your Love," "I Feel Your Love Comin' On," Sister Sledge's "Thinking of You" and "Lost in Music," and Norma Jean Wright's "Saturday" were all released as digital singles.  Now, those remixes and more have just been collected on a new set available on 2 CDs, download or streaming (with a vinyl release to follow).  Dimitri From Paris Presents Le CHIC Remix, from Glitterbox Recordings, presents ten tracks in vocal form on CD 1 and those same tracks on CD 2 as instrumentals.

In addition to the songs mentioned above, Le CHIC Remix also includes Dimitri's sizzling dancefloor stylings on CHIC's "Le Freak" and "My Forbidden Lover," Sister Sledge's "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "Got to Love Somebody," and Sheila and B. Devotion's "Your Love Is Good."  All of Dimitri's remixes have been derived from the original master tapes of these seminal 1978-1980 recordings, putting the spotlight on the individual elements in Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' richly-textured productions that make CHIC's music so eternal.  Three of the remixes have been created especially for this set: "My Forbidden Lover," "He's the Greatest Dancer," and "Got to Love Somebody."  The remaining tracks have all been remastered in 2018.

"That is what I consider a bit of a lifetime achievement - I still can't fully fathom that this is real," comments Dimitri from Paris in the press release.  "I find it quite overwhelming when I realize I was actually allowed to get my hands on those absolute - stone cold - monumental - (insert your own favorite superlative here) - milestones of Dance Music."

Freak out!  These ten CHIC-helmed classics can be heard anew.  You'll find the complete track listing and order links below.  A vinyl release will be announced in the near future.

What a shame about what dimitri did. He added several claps, cow bells and so on, in the chic's songs. The worse thing he did, he accelerate the tempo of lost in music (my favorite) and he took the 1984 remix (who was bad) to do the remix of the song. I'd rather prefer Mike Mauro for doing the job, he's far better than Dimitri. Only "saturday" by Norma Jean wasn't slaugthered. For the rest...SHAME !!!
