Last year, the world lost one of the greatest voices and songwriters of modern times — Chris Cornell. From his work in Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and his solo career, Chris’s music defined a generation of rock music. Tomorrow, November 16, UMe will release a new collection that celebrates his legacy of song. Entitled Chris Cornell, the set comes in a variety of configurations: 1-CD distillation, 2-LP, 4-CD, and super deluxe 4-CD/1-DVD/7-LP. There will also be digital versions of the standard and deluxe sets. Each version will be released with the full permission and participation of the Cornell estate, led by Cornell’s wife Vicki, who compiled the sets.

The 1-CD and 2-LP configurations collect 17 selections from across Cornell’s career. Classics from Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog are all present, as are a number of songs from Cornell’s solo career. Together, they display the breadth of his talents, from the anthemic “Black Hole Sun” and the yearning “Hunger Strike,” to the dynamic Bond theme “You Know My Name.” The set also includes unreleased tracks, boasting an acoustic version of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” recorded live on SiriusXM, and an emotive, expansive ballad called “When Bad Does Good.” The newly discovered single comes from the artist’s personal archive and was performed, recorded, and mixed by Cornell himself.

The 1-CD configuration of Chris Cornell will be presented in a jewel case and features a die-cut slipcases showcasing Seattle forests on the front and a montage of cityscapes from places where Cornell lived on the back. This slipcase is exclusive to the first manufacturing run of the set. The CD will also include a 32-page booklet with unreleased photos and liner notes from Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Tom Morello, Mike McCready, and Brendan O’Brien. The 17-track version will also be released as a 2-LP set on November 16. The black vinyl discs will be housed in a gatefold sleeve and the package will include a die-cut slipcase with the same graphics as the CD slipcase. This standard version will also be available as a digital download and on streaming services.

Die-hard fans can also enjoy a limited-edition, deluxe 4-CD box set version of Chris Cornell, which will also be released this Friday. It features 64 tracks, 11 of which are previously unreleased. Among them are a live version of “Wild World,” performed with the original hitmaker Yusuf/Cat Stevens, a cover of The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life,” recorded at the Royal Albert Hall, and a duet on Bob Marley’s classic “Redemption Song” featuring Cornell’s daughter, Toni. Two cuts from Temple of the Dog’s hometown reunion show are also included, along with three solo songs recorded live in Sweden in 2006. The 4-CD edition includes an expanded, 54-page booklet with unreleased photos and liner notes. The four discs are presented in individual CD-sized jackets and the box features the familiar die-cut O-card slipcase with trees and cityscapes. The deluxe edition will also be available as a digital download and on streaming services.

If that wasn’t enough, UMe will release a super deluxe configuration with the four CDs, a bonus DVD of 24 videos (2 of which are unreleased), plus 7 LPs that feature the entire CD program. The limited-edition super deluxe box set includes a 66-page, linen-wrapped hardcover photo book with a red foil signature, 3 artist lithographs, 3 sun-activated photochromatic lithographs, a turntable mat and microfiber cleaning cloth, and a 36″x48″ wall poster.
