Def Leppard as been in the headlines a lot lately.  The legendary rockers just wraped up a U.S. tour co-headlined by Journey, they’re set to tour across Ireland and the U.K. next month, and were recently announced as nominees for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2019.  On November 30, Bludgeon Riffola and UMe will release two new collections that look back on Def Leppard’s illustrious career:  a best-of compilation entitled The Story So Far:  The Best Of, and a new 10-disc 7″ single box set called Hysteria:  The Singles, celebrating their multi-platinum album.

The Story So Far will be available in a variety of configurations, including 1-CD, 2-CD, 2-LP with 7″ single, as well as digital download and streaming.  The standard 1-CD version collects 17 tracks, including the smash hits “Animal,” “Photograph,” “Rock of Ages,” and “Pour Some Sugar On Me.”  It also includes a previously unreleased version of Def Leppard’s cover of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus,” which the group previously performed for a Spotify digital single.

The 2-CD edition is expanded to include 35 songs, featuring tracks from across the band’s four-decade career. “Personal Jesus” features again, as does the radio remix version of another cover, “Rock On,” marking its physical media debut.  The 2-LP version of The Story So Far follows the program of the standard 1-CD version, though “Personal Jesus” doesn’t appear on the two main discs.  However, it is included on a special bonus single (exclusive to the first manufacturing run), where it’s backed with the new holiday tune, “We All Need Christmas,” which makes its physical debut on this collection.

All configurations of The Story So Far are available now for pre-order and will be released on November 30.

    1. I compared the Rock of Ages comp with the new 2CD The Story So Far and there is a big difference between the two…the new one is updated and has the new cover of Depeche Mode…why the Christmas track is only on the bonus 7″ vinyl and not the CD was a stupid move really, and should be on something else too for CD buyers…the new comp takes 16 tracks off Rock Of Ages, mainly album tracks and lesser hit singles…the only track removed I would say was a mistake is “Miss You In A Heartbeat” because its only other place was on Retro Active, another comp, but on the other hand, that has 2 versions of the song, acoustic and electric… The question is what will be in Boxset #2 with the 90s albums… Retro Active in full or another rarities disc with those tracks?? The new set is updated with singles from post-2005 albums and most importantly, it frees up the 3 exclusive studio cuts from the live album “Mirrorball” (Undefeated, it’s all about believing, and Kings of the world), so now you get those songs without having to buy a somewhat redundant live album package!! I consider that a big plus as they are great songs but underexposed because of where they were…as for the removed songs from High & Dry, I’m fine with that because, before, they were remastered and the parent album was not in 2005…now it is, in the first Boxset #1, plus the new set has other one-offs like the radio remix of Rock On… I’d say the new set is well thought out and a welcome replacement or addition really
…the Hysteria singles box is nice too, with the full puzzle sleeves…they were fun to collect back in 1987/1988!!
