The Second Disc recently reported that The Fire Theft's debut is slated as the next Run Out Groove release.  Always looking forward, the label has announced that polls are open to decide the next release in the queue, which will be one of three jazz titles.

The first contender is The Prestidigitator by The George Wallington Quintet.  From 1943 to 1953, pianist George Wallington built up an impressive resume, collaborating with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Kai Winding, Gerry Mulligan, Zoot Sims, and many others.  The bands he led from 1954 to 1960 included such rising stars as Jackie McLean, Donald Byrd, and Phil Woods.  Though billed as a release by The George Wallington Quintet, some of the numbers are actually played in a quartet configuration.  Among the tracks are three Mose Allison covers and three tracks composed by members of the band.  The Prestidigitator was engineered by Atlantic Records producer, Tom Dowd, and released on the EastWest label in 1958.  If voted to win, Run Out Groove will press the first vinyl reissue of The Prestidigitator since 1958.  The music will be pressed onto 180-gram black vinyl at Record Industry in The Netherlands, housed in a tip-on jacket, and half-speed mastered from the original analog masters.

Another title up for release is Chick Corea's Tones for Joan's Bones,  the debut album by one of the most revered jazz pianists.  Many of Corea's compositions are considered jazz standards and he is a pioneerof fusion through his work with Miles Davis  and his founding role in Return To Forever.  Tones for Joan's Bones was released on the Atlantic subsidiary, Vortex, in 1968.  The 4-song collection of hard-bop was originally recorded in 1966 with Joe Farrell on tenor sax, Woody Shaw on trumpet, Steve Swallow on bass, and Joe Chambers on drums.  If selected as the next title, Run Out Groove will press the first-ever U.S. vinyl reissue of the material.  It would be sourced from the analog mono masters and mastered at half-speed, pressed on black 180-gram vinyl at Record Industry, and housed in a tip-on jacket.

The final title in the running for the next Run Out Groove release is a new collection of Sonny Stitt alternate takes, entitled Lone Wolf: The Roost Alternates.  Sonny Stitt's illustrious career include early sessions with Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bud Powell.  While he recorded albums for Verve, Prestige, Argo, and Impulse!, it's his takes for Roost Records that are spotlighted on this prospective collection.  Gathering sessions originally recorded from 1952 to 1957, the album -- if selected to win -- will spotlight Stitt's talents in a variety of contexts: tenor and alto saxophone, combo and orchestra, standards and new compositions.  Some of these tracks saw vinyl release on the 1986 album Symphony Hall Swing; the rest were collected on Mosaic's The Complete Roost Sonny Stitt Studio Sessions.  Many of those tracks will make their vinyl debut on this set, should it be selected to be Run Out Groove's next project.  The title would also include new artwork with photos by Francis Wolff and liner notes by Michael Cuscuna.  The music would be cut to lacquers at Sam Phillips Recording Studio, pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at Record Industry, with the discs housed in a single-pocket, tip-on jacket.
