Singing Songs About the Southland: Classic Lynyrd Skynyrd Collection "Skynyrd's Innyrds" Returns on Vinyl

January 23, 2019 By Sam Stone Leave a Comment

BUY BROWN LP FROM UDISCOVER STORE

Periodically this month, we'll be looking at titles released in the latter part of 2018 that we either didn't cover, or only covered briefly, the first time around! We hope you enjoy this look at "some nice things we've missed"...

Originally released in 1989, the Lynyrd Skynyrd compilation Skynyrd's Innyrds: Their Greatest Hits was certified 5x platinum by the RIAA and helped bring the Southern rockers' hits to a new generation of fans.  The album collects classics like "Sweet Home Alabama," "Saturday Night Special," "What's Your Name?" and "That Smell," as well as fan favorites like "Call Me the Breeze" and "Working' for MCA."  Skynyrd's Innyrds also features an alternate take of "Double Trouble" and an unedited version of "Free Bird." Though referred to as an outtake version, "Free Bird" appears to be the classic take but without the fade-out.

All told, the set has served as a fantastic, single-disc introduction to the band.  Now, thirty years on, Geffen/UMe has reissued the classic compilation on new, black vinyl and limited-edition brown vinyl pressings.  These new editions were released late last year and boast packaging that replicates the original version.

The standard black vinyl version is available in stores and on online retailers, while the limited-edition brown vinyl pressing appears to be exclusive to UMe's uDiscover online store.  You can find links and a full track listing for Skynyrd's Innyrds below!

Sam Stone

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day. Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.
