Back On The Street: Todd Rundgren and Utopia’s Reunion Show Documented on “Live at the Chicago Theatre” Box Set
Last year, rock’s wizard/true star Todd Rundgren reunited prog rockers turned power-pop legends Utopia, joining up with Kasim Sulton, Willie Wilcox, along with featured performer Gil Assayas. It had been 32 years since the band’s last performance, save a brief reunion in 1992. Utopia trekked across the U.S. in the spring and summer and now one stop on the tour will be released as a 2-CD/DVD/Blu-ray set, as well as a limited-edition, two-disc green vinyl set.
Arriving from Cleopatra Records on April 5, the Live at the Chicago Theatre documents Todd Rundgren and Utopia’s May 22, 2018 performance in full, with 24 songs including “Love in Action,” “Love Is the Answer,” and “The Ikon” spanning over two hours of audio and video. The 2-LP set, meanwhile, includes the first 11 tracks of the concert and the slabs of green vinyl are packaged in a newly designed gatefold sleeve. Among the tracks on the LPs are excellent versions of mid-’70s fan favorites like “Utopia Theme,” “The Ikon,” “Communion With The Sun,” and others.
Both editions of Live at the Chicago Theatre will be available on April 5. The four-disc set with the CDs, DVD, and Blu-ray is currently available on Amazon from the links below. I suspect “Back On The Street” should only be listed once on the track list for the BluRay/DVD/2CD set.
I thought so too – it has to be a mistake given that they didn’t list “Freedom Fighters” in that first tracklisting at all!
Does anyone know if the audio will include surround sound? You can’t take it for granted these days.
I have looked all over the internet to find this out? Does ANYONE KNOW? I saw a brief interview clip where TR alludes to working on a surround mix for his upcoming release so hopefully it will be dts Master 5.1 at least
