Aretha Franklin, Songs of Faith: Aretha Gospel (Geffen/UMe) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Songs Of Faith: Aretha Gospel offers nine gospel standards recorded by a 14-year-old Aretha in 1956 at the New Bethel Church in her native Detroit, where her father, the legendary Rev. C.L. Franklin, would give his inimitable sermons. Predating her tenure on Columbia Records by six years and her breakthrough on Atlantic Records by more than a decade, these primitive piano-and-vocal recordings offer a fascinating early listen to one of the most original and captivating voices in recorded history. This vinyl release features new liner notes by David Ritz and a discographical history of these tracks. The uDiscover store will offer an exclusive white vinyl pressing. John Lennon and Yoko Ono, The Wedding Album (Secretly Canadian/Chimera Music)
CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
White Vinyl Box Set: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
CD + LP + T-shirt bundle: Secretly Canadian Online Store
Clear Vinyl Edition: Rough Trade Online Store
Today, just over 50 years after the couple's marriage, John Lennon and Yoko Ono's avant-garde Wedding Album will be re-released. John and Yoko were married in Gibraltar near Spain and rather than a traditional honeymoon, they embarked on a press tour promoting world peace in what became their famous Bed-In. Wedding Album provides a snapshot of these moments. There's "John & Yoko," a call-and-response duet featuring the newlyweds calling out each other's names; Yoko's "John, John, Let's Hope for Peace"; interview snippets; John's a cappella reading of The Beatles' "Good Night." Altogether, it's a humorous, spontaneous album that celebrates the early days of the pair's union. On the packaging front, the LP editions of Wedding Album include faithfully recreated memorabilia. The CD, meanwhile, will be presented in a six-panel layout with an extensive booklet.
The Secretly Canadian Online Store is also offering a limited-edition bundle including the CD, LP box set, and t-shirt at a discounted price. Meanwhile, independent retailer Rough Trade has a clear vinyl edition available, limited to just 300 copies. To learn more about the new reissue of Wedding Album, take a look at our post here!
