Few bluesmen had as indelible a mark on American music as John Lee Hooker. Born in Mississippi in 1917, Hooker would eventually be dubbed "King of the Boogie" and renowned worldwide for his guitar prowess, impressive baritone, and eclectic mix of Delta blues, country, gospel, and even field hollers. Now, The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker, his acoustic Riverside Records debut that helped put him on the map, is being revisited to the tune of a deluxe vinyl reissue this summer.
With its time-honored storytelling, authentic, grit, and raw talent, Country Blues became one of the defining albums of Hooker's career. Craft Recordings will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the landmark album with a newly remastered, all-analog vinyl edition of The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker on August 2. The new mastering was completed by Kevin Gray at CoHEARent Audio using the original master tapes. The 180-gram black vinyl record will be housed in a faithful tip-on jacket for a deluxe presentation that's sure to delight the eyes and ears of blues fans and new initiates alike.
