Chess Grand Masters: Classic Blues Label Celebrates 75 Years with Special Vinyl Reissues

For all its influence, it sometimes feels like the Chicago blues label Chess Records doesn’t get the respect it deserves. A late-period work from blues legend John Lee Hooker has recently been reissued on CD and vinyl. 1992’s Boom Boom, part of a late-career resurgence for the Detroit-forged guitarist, was re-pressed on CD last week with two bonus tracks first released on a reissue of the album by Shout! Boom Boom: Craft Recordings Reissues, Expands John Lee Hooker’s “Burnin'”

On February 24, Craft Recordings has a date with The King of the Boogie.  That’s the date the label will reissue John Lee Hooker’s 1962 electric blues classic Burnin’ in an expanded mono/stereo CD edition and in various vinyl pressings just in time for its 60th anniversary. Ace Records is celebrating the late blues legend John Lee Hooker (1912 or 1917 – 2001) with a historic new box set. Due on May 29, Documenting the Sensation Recordings 1949-1952 accomplishes just that feat. When Ace purchased Sensation Records from Bernard Besman, a number of Hooker sides were among the acquisition.
