BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

For five decades, NRBQ have created groundbreaking music that traverses genres, forms, and styles. While their studio albums and compilations can attest to their many transformations, it’s on the stage where NRBQ’s music truly thrives. Today, Omnivore Recordings  released Turn On, Tune In, a two-disc, CD/DVD set that captures the band – Terry Adams (keyboards/vocals), Scott Ligon (guitar/vocals), Casey McDonough (bass/vocals) and John Perrin (drums) – live on Sirius XM’s The Loft and onstage at WFMU’s Monty Hall in Jersey City. The 21-track collection is also  available in digital and 2-LP/DVD configurations.

Turn On, Tune In captures the restless and relentless spirit of NRBQ with first-time live recordings of many of the tracks and six songs that are previously unrecorded. The CD includes six complete songs from Sirius XM and the full 15-song set from WFMU. The latter performance also appears in full on the DVD. WFMU DJ Bob Brainen contributes liner notes that contextualize the performances and offer insight into the spirit of the band and their songs.  Both originals and covers (Goffin and King’s “Don’t Ever Change,” The Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby”) are given rip-roaring treatments by the famously eclectic band.

Turn On, Tune In captures the spirit of freeform radio at its finest. The CD/DVD, LP, and digital configurations are out today from Omnivore Recordings. Check out a full track listing and place your orders below!

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day.

Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.

  1. I bought it out of habit; they’re still great musicians and really nice guys … but … but … dammit, Terry, if you want us to watch John Perrin stomp all over these songs, that’s fine; in return, could you please take your freakin’ thumb off the DVD of the 35th Anniversary show???
