Let 'Em Show You What It's All About: UMe Bows Rare Quad Mix of The Jackson 5's 'Greatest Hits' On Vinyl

A half century after The Jackson 5 became a blockbuster R&B/pop act, UMe is reissuing their first greatest hits album on vinyl - with a special twist.

The quintet's Greatest Hits is back on LP October 25, utilizing a stereo fold-down of a rare quadraphonic mix issued only in Japan in 1975. That mix featured alternate vocals and instrumentation on some tracks, making this release a true new way to hear some of the group's biggest hit songs.

And what an incredible run of hits it was! The 11 tracks on Greatest Hits were released in just a year and a half, and the group's first four singles - "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There" - all reached the very top of the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts. Follow-ups "Mama's Pearl" and "Never Can Say Goodbye" each charted No. 2, while "Maybe Tomorrow" and "Sugar Daddy" (a single available only on this album) made it to Nos. 20 and 10, respectively. Rounding out the album are two tracks released as B-sides (the powerful "Who's Lovin' You" and the ballad "I Found That Girl") and the impassioned "Goin' Back To Indiana."

This special mix of Greatest Hits, mastered from original four-channel analog masters housed in the Motown vault, has been mastered and cut for vinyl by Alex Abrash at AA Mastering; standard black vinyl LPs will be available as well as an exclusive clear variant on the uDiscover Music store. Pre-order both below!

They should release it as a Blu-ray in the original Quad mix. It’s awesome. They could actually do a 2 on 1 disc with Jackson 5 and The Supremes. Both are great quad mixes.

I'd rather have the quad version reissued. The original was always too expensive when I could find one. Besides, some of us still have equipment to playback quad lps.

I thought there was at least three different types of Quadrophonic Record playing systems ?

With more hi-res players available on 4K Blu-ray players, it's time to to make multi channel files available for download in on-line stores.
