Having brought his catalogue into the digital and streaming age on his own timeframe, Peter Gabriel is now offering more than 60 rare tracks in a new compilation.
Flotsam and Jetsam, announced today as a digital album, offers B-sides, remixes and non-album tracks spanning Gabriel's extensive solo career from 1976 (a cover of The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever" from the All This and World War II soundtrack) to 2016 ("The Veil," penned for the dramatic biopic Snowden). In between, there's versions of many favorites, including "Solsbury Hill," "Biko," "Shock The Monkey," "Sledgehammer," "In Your Eyes," "Digging In The Dirt" and more.
While it's not entirely complete - "Out Out," his collaboration with Nile Rodgers for the Gremlins soundtrack, is missing, as is "Sagrada," a So outtake included as a download on that album's deluxe reissue in 2012 - it does feature some genuine rarities, including a longer version of "Slowburn" from Gabriel's first solo album (detailed as unreleased but seemingly appearing on a rare half-speed master vinyl of the album), an unedited version of "Sledgehammer" B-side "Don't Break This Rhythm," and mixes of "Curtains" and "Father, Son" only available on Uscita, a commercially unreleased disc given out during the Music Industry Trusts Awards.
A full track list and iTunes link is below - we'll update with more digital channels if and when they become available.

Bummer there is no physical release (Still waiting for Rated PG to be released on CD), but this still exciting news. Many wonderful tracks here. Some definite rarities.
I’n interested in more than just the hits, but it’s’ great to FINALLY have that single mix of “In Your Eyes” released again. Never been on CD, and it’s still not, but I’ll take it digitally.
How cool that “Strawberry Fields” is being included too!
Rob says
The single mix of "In Your Eyes" (with the extra "accepting all I've done and said...." verse) can be found on an American promo CD here:
https://www.discogs.com/Peter-Gabriel-In-Your-Eyes/release/4807023
I, of course, mirror everyone else's statements that a CD set would be preferable. Especially for the 70's & 80's material, most of which has never seen a CD release.
And since PG likes to think outside the box, how about a Blu-ray audio release? The entire set could fit on one disc in hi-res. And maybe some 5.1 mixes too???
Still a few things missing here like "No More Apartheid", "Out Out" and the live versions of "Humdrum", "Not One of Us" and "Ain't That Peculiar" from the "Recorder" compilation LP. There was also a live "Lead a Normal Life" (recorded in Normal, IL!) on a WOMAD LP.
Shaun says
Didn’t know about that promo CD. Still, not easy to come by. Given that it’s been the “go-to” mix for Top 40/AC stations (In the U.S., at least) for decades it needed to have been more widely available, commercially, all this time.
I am not a total PG expert, but I knew “No More Apatheid” was atill missing. Still, a lot of great gems to be mined here.
A physical release, CD, Blu-Ray, or both, would certainly be welcome. As it is, I’m happy we have this much.
Jim Donald says
There's a CD single (released in 1987) on Virgin which has"Biko", "No More Apartheid", and "I Have The Touch (85 Remix)". Cat. # is CDPGS 612.
The Thorn says
I'm a big fan of the idea of a BD-Audio. I love the format and there really isn't enough music in lossless. PG would be perfect for this.
Vocalion says
It is also on Tidal. I was hoping that it would include the piano version of Here Comes the Flood that appeared on Robert Fripp’s Exposure album, but it was not included.
Earl Cambron says
CDs please!
David says
A triple-CD set would be a "must buy." Fingers crossed... however, purchasing the download? I don't think so...
Micharro says
Older artists like Gabriel must realise that their fan base want CD release, hardly downloads. That stuff is all mastered, just put together some art package and put it out!
Andre Salles says
Would have to be a 5-CD set to fit all the material. I would definitely be in to buy it, though.
Jason M says
Just like his old friend Phil Collins, Gabriel pretty much hates the fans. For both artists, multiple rare B-Sides are just digital only, and a shame. No Physical release? No purchase.
Shaun says
“Hates the fans”? Seems a bit strong.
I’d like CDs too, but it’s not like he had to do this at all.
