The fourth and final core album by Cream, 1969's Goodbye (sometimes referred to as Goodbye Cream), followed the structure of the previous year's Wheels of Fire. Whereas that album featured one disc of live recordings and one disc of studio tracks, the taut Goodbye had one live side and one studio side. Despite its short running time of just six songs, Goodbye packed considerable power from the triumvirate of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker. It reached the top of the Albums Chart in the U.K. and an impressive No. 2 in America. Now, it's being revisited - with a twist.
On February 7, 2020, Polydor and UMC will release a new 4-CD box set, Goodbye Live Tour 1968, jettisoning the three studio songs but featuring four complete concerts including the Los Angeles Forum show from which the original three live cuts on Goodbye were culled.
Goodbye Live Tour 1968, housed in a sturdy slipcase, contains the following shows in complete form:
- October 4, 1968 - Oakland Coliseum, Oakland
- October 19, 1968 - Los Angeles Forum, Los Angeles
- October 20, 1968 - San Diego Sports Arena, San Diego
- November 26, 1968 - Royal Albert Hall, London
At these concerts, Cream tore into a setlist featuring such staples of their repertoire as "Crossroads," "Sunshine of Your Love," "Spoonful," and "White Room" including incendiary jams.
Overall, the book-style package has 36 tracks, 29 of which are premiering on CD. 19 of the songs are previously unreleased in any format, and 10 more from the climactic Royal Albert Hall show have only been available on DVD. Historian David Fricke tells the story of the band's final tour in his new liner notes.
The three California shows have been newly mastered from the original 1968 mix reels by Kevin Reeves at Universal Mastering in Nashville, Tennessee. The Royal Albert Hall show was mastered from the original 1968 transfer reels by Jason NeSmith at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, Georgia.

I think you mean "jettisoning the three studio songs". Should be a great set!

Where are all the comments for this great news? Hendrix is always getting the publicity, it is about time to show respect for the Cream. You will all see the Power and Glory of this Holy Trio. The late great Baker and Bruce, and not the Clapton of Wonderful Tonight. Seriously, I am sure this entire package will be well done, Bill Levinson does a great job with everything he produces.
